Capitol Loses a Brain
Word is that Brian Schmidt will be leaving his post as staffer for the Joint Committee on Tax Policy. Schmidty is one of those Capitol staffers possessing both a wonky brain, and the people skills to build trust on both sides of the aisle.
The joint committee hadn’t actually met in nearly a year, but Schmidty was still the go-to person for “scoring” the fiscal notes of tax credit programs. For example during special session as a Joplin recovery tax credit was proposed, the Senate stood at ease as senators huddled around Schmidty on the Senate floor to hear his verdict on the proposal’s cost.
