Stadium Opposition Growing

Yesterday House Budget Vice Chair Scott Fitzpatrick formally joined an increasing number of legislators going on the record to announce their intention to block funding for a new St. Louis stadium without a vote from the public.  See Marshall Griffin’s story here.

Governor Jay Nixon has previously brushed aside criticism saying there were “lots of legislators.”  But as more and more pile up, he may find he has a fight on his hands.

Follow-Up on Black Dems for Early Childhood Proposal

“You know how some of the Black Dems have issues with the ‘establishment’ Dems?  I think this was a way to poke at Chris Koster since he has been backing the college scholarship plan… They see early childhood as more critical. And I guess it sort of sent a signal to Koster to pay attention to them…”

Tilley Converts Committee

Former speaker Steven Tilley sent $562,500 from Friends of Tilley to MO Majority PAC LLC.  The underlying LLC did not change, but simply changed its name.  And the effect appears to be nothing more significant than to change from what would be a disingenuous candidate committee changing the election cycle every two years to a political action committee.

Eddie Justice, a long-time friend of Tilley’s, is the treasurer, but look for him to rotate off.  Justice is the treasurer of the House Republican Campaign Committee, and he expects that to remain his focus.
