MCN – Clay Showdown Coming?

Tipster: Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal is making calls for her congressional race against Lacy Clay.

Chappelle-Nadal is term-limited, and has been very vocal about Clay’s absenteeism on the issues in her district… first, Ferguson; and now the simmering Bridgeton radioactive fire.

It’s very hard to beat an incumbent congressman, especially one like Clay who has decades of name ID and has proven himself a very capable campaigner.

However, in Jefferson City last session, there were whispers that Clay was considering a career after Congress.  So who knows?  Maybe he doesn’t have the fire in the belly her used to.

We’ll see….

Hillhouse for ???

Missourian reports on Ed Hillhouse’s exit from EastWest Gateway.  See it here.

The most interesting nugget is the final quote from Hillhouse: “I’m not ruling out another run for public office,” he said. “I see opportunities in the state and in the county.”

VNB?!?

Yo, John Hancock: Get control of your party, man.  The chairman of the Columbia Pachyderm Club tweets about sorority’s “very nice butts.”

The Riverfront Times has the story… See it here.

Pull Quote: That said, Berry denies there was anything offensive about a 69-year-old GOP bigwig praising some Delta Gamma derriere. Per the Tribune story:     On Saturday morning, Berry said, he and a woman in his group began discussing the sorority members. “She said, ‘All those girls are wearing these nice sleek pants, but I think in our day we were in better shape,’ ”

Berry said. “I said, ‘No, we weren’t. You can tell by the way they are walking. You can see all the muscles there.’” “VNB” was a comment “on their obvious athletic build,” Berry said.

MO Promise Non-Filing Follow-Up

Reader 1: Mo Ethics has long said privately that the applicability of disclosure law to electronic communications -- websites, emails, blogs, tweets -- is in a gray area. The laws largely imagine print. And they don't want to test it. Hence, no enforcement.

Reader 2: I agree that there is likely to be no enforcement but that is not because of the law. MEC are good decent people but they way too often live in fear. There isn't anything in section 130.046 that treats electronic communications any differently. The key phrase is something to the effect of spending money. It’s not how the money is spent just that you spend it….

There is a non-profit 501c4 filed which is perhaps paying for expenses while supporters decide which avenue to take.  See that filing here.
