MOScout Daily Update: Polls Buoy Eigel - New Kehoe Ad - Chrismer Adds $$$ - Big Checks from Carpenters and more…

Quick Wednesday update…

Polls Buoy Eigel

Sen. Bill Eigel’s gubernatorial campaign was buoyed yesterday by two polls which showed him in a hunt.  Polls previously throughout the campaign have had Eigel in a distant third.

ARW Strategies (June 27-30, MoE +/-4%) has him tied for second with Jay Ashcroft and within the margin of error of Mike KehoeSee the toplines here.

Meanwhile, the Missouri Independent found a poll from the pro-Kehoe PAC which had Ashcroft and Kehoe tied at 27% and Eigel forming a base at 16%.  The article says the polls was conducted in “early June.”  And it quotes the pollster warning of a potential shift in the landscape: “If Eigel is able to attract additional resources, this could become a true three-way contest.”

What It Means

With Ashcroft and Kehoe aiming their fire exclusively at each other, Eigel could gain more ground. We’ll see…

New Kehoe Ad Hit Ashcroft on Vet Comments

The new ad from the pro-Kehoe American Dream PAC used Jay Ashcroft’s remarks (from a Lincoln Days forum) about veterans receiving special veterans.  “I don’t think we ought to say that if you’re in the military we’ll give you this discount, but everybody else has to pay twice as much. I don’t think that’s good government.”

A veteran then addresses the camera to exclaim his disgust before the ad pivots to a pro-Kehoe message.

See it here.

Chrismer Antes $50K

Rich Chrismer, running in the Senate 23 Republican primary, anted $50,000 into his campaign account.  He’s still behind in the money race, trailing Reps. Phil Christofanelli and Adam Schnelting.  But despite fewer resources, Chrismer remains a potent wildcard in that race.  He has decades of name ID in St. Charles.  The April MOScout/Remington poll found him starting that race basically tied with Schnelting and Christofanelli (with huge undecideds).  I had assumed that Chrismer would fade as race unspooled.  But if he’s going to spend money, the question becomes: from whom is he taking votes?  My gut would be that the establishment Chrismer is more of a problem for Christofanelli than Schnelting.
