MOScout Daily Update: ArmorVine Training - More on Chiefs and Royals - Christ Ad - GretchPAC and more…

ArmorVine New Rep Training

Next month, ArmorVine is hosting a “Behind the Curtains” training for new House members.  It promises to explain “the truth about the power structure of the Missouri House.”

Reps. Mazzie Christensen and Bill Hardwick are featured speakers.

What It Means

ArmorVine – despite differences on some educational issues – is otherwise largely in line with the Conservative Caucus.  This training shows they plan to be active and engaged in the Capitol next year.

And this confluence of factors – an active ArmorVine, talk that the Conservative Caucus is expanding in the House, and the expectation that Dems will pick up some seats – could make the House a more interesting place in the upcoming session.

More on Chiefs and Royals

I received some feedback on yesterday’s blurb about Speaker-elect Jon Patterson backing a new tax vote to keep the Chiefs, one that would divert money going to the Royals.

“Interesting that Jackson County prioritizes the venue that hosts 8 home games a year, rather than the one that has 81 home games a year. The Royals will be happy to go to Kansas where they are going to pay 2/3 of the stadium build costs.”

The situation could prove vexing for Missouri lawmakers.  JP appears to be casting this issue as a local one, pushing for local voters to approve a local tax.  However, I doubt the next governor would sit by if there’s a chance of losing either professional sports team.  That possibility could spur a state response.

Similarly, if the local tax fails again, I imagine there’d be a lot of pressure for the governor (and legislature) to swoop in with a new package.  Obviously, voting on a subsidy for new stadiums would give a lot of legislators a lot of angst.

And

Remember, over on the east side, the Cardinals are talking about needed money to facelift Busch as well.

House 96: Christ Ad

Rep. Brad Christ released his first television ad.  See it here.

Everyday I’m bringing people together to find common sense solutions to the challenges we face. We increased teacher pay because you can’t have great schools without great educators. We cut taxes and slashed regulations to create jobs and reduce inflation. We supported law enforcement and cracked down on violent crime. But we’re not done yet and I won’t stop until St. Louis County is the best place to live, raise a family and start a business.

·       Christ faces a rematch with Democrat Leslie Derrington.  He beat her handily in 2022 by 10 points.  But, despite being an incumbent, expectations are for a closer race this cycle with presidential turnout, Trump and abortion helping Dems in the suburbs.

DeAngelis Past Leads to Removal

The Independent reports that Corey DeAngelis has been placed on leave from the conservative group the American Federation for Children following allegations that he appeared in gay adult films. The organization removed a page outlining his work with the group. The federation said that DeAngelis had been placed on leave while the claim that he appeared in videos as ‘Seth Rose’ on the adult film site GayHoopla was investigated… DeAngelis is the author behind the book The Parent Revolution: Rescuing Your Kids from the Radicals Ruining Our Schools, which has been endorsed by former President Donald Trump.”

Parson Parody Site Coming?

Apparently in response to the execution of Marcellus Williams, Toby Morton, who Wikipedia describes as “an American comedian, documentary filmmaker, online activist, political critic, and screenwriter. A member of the Democratic Party, he is well known for creating websites satirizing and antagonizing Republican figures for their stances on political subjects.  In addition, he has written several comedy series and shorts, including South Park”, posted that he had acquired websites with names of Missouri pols.

New Committees

GretchPAC was formed.  It’s in support of Rep. Gretchen Bangert who just won her Democratic primary to join the St. County Council.
