MOScout Sunday6: Economic Slowdown

It’s a little different this week. I’ve been harping in the Daily Updates about a coming slowdown in the economy.  This will hit state tax receipts later this year and lead to budget tightening soon thereafter.

So far, there’s been little indication of a slowdown in the official economic data.  That’s because it’s all backward looking.  This week’s GDP number, for example, will be for the first quarter.  Even though it’s expected to show meager growth, it’s still before the chaos of on-and-off, and what-did-Trump-say-today tariffs.  Indicators that give insight into real-time impact tend to be more anecdotal, and less consistent.  Still, their message seems quite clear.

The first five visuals are from Daily Shot, a subscription service which each morning compiles dozens of economic charts.  The final two visuals are more conceptual.  They’re from Apollo.
