Carpenters Come In Big

Over the weekend, the Carpenters union wrote six-figure checks to three Democratic statewide candidates.

AG candidate Teresa Hensley received $200K; LG candidate Russ Carnahan and SOS candidate Robin Smith both took in $100K.  That bring their total giving (only counting $5K+ checks) to $1.3 million this year.  Last year the Carpenters gave $560K in political contributions.

Judy Baker, the Democrats’ nominee for treasurer, has yet to receive a large contribution from the Carpenters.

And

Interestingly, the Carpenters also sent $10K to Rick Stream, who recently lost his Senate bid.

New Committee for Kids?

A new committee was formed – Vote Yes on 3 for Kids.  It’s a campaign committee to support the passage of the Raise Your Hand for Kids tax increase proposal.

It might be new a Rex Sinquefield committee, as it has his usual team – including Marc Ellinger.  But we’ll see…

Why the NRA Event for Blunt?

Last week NRA Vice-President Wayne LaPierre came to Missouri to formally endorse Senator Roy Blunt’s re-election.  See it here.  I get the big deal in a Republican primary – or if you’re a Democrat looking for crossover voters.  But why do the hubbub as the Republican in a general election.  Perhaps the NRA has higher favorable than I imagine with Independents – or maybe we’ll looking at a turn-out election in Missouri.

Last week’s MOScout poll has an amazingly low number of undecideds (single digits) across the statewide races.  Maybe folks have pretty much made up their minds, and the game now is just getting your people out to polls.

We’ll see…

Checkers as Photo Op?

Senator Roy Blunt tweeted a picture of himself playing checkers with his grandson (see it here).  It appeared to be one of those look-at-me-I’m-not-always-campaigning-I’m-a-human-too tweets that politicians love to send out.

But for goodness sakes grandpa, did you have to hagtash it #MoreJobsLessGov?

Panel for Cohen Vacancy

The Twenty-First Circuit Judicial Commission announced the panel of three nominees to be submitted to Governor Jay Nixon to fill the circuit judge vacancy in St. Louis County created by the retirement of Judge Robert S. Cohen as circuit judge.  Those nominated by the commission are: John N. Borbonus III, Brian H. May, and Stanley Wallach… Pursuant to Supreme Court of Missouri Rule 10.29, the commission reports the final votes received by each nominee were: Borbonus received five votes, May received four votes, and Wallach received four votes.

MEC Decisions

The Missouri Ethics Commission fined Daryl Dudley, an unsuccessful candidate for Columbia City Council, $2,000 for not filing his receipt of large donations in a timely manner.  See it here.

And

They dismissed a complaint against Rick Stream regarding his amendment of his campaign committee.  See it here.

Ed Pens Book

In case you weren’t sure whether voting for Donald Trump was a good idea or not, you can now read Ed Martin’s assurance that it’s OK.

From his email blast…

Dear Friend,

Please consider buying the book that Phyllis Schlafly and Brett Decker and I wrote.  It's important to understand that it is not just about Trump's personality and talk but about his conservative ideas and policies.

He is more conservative that you realize.

If you buy the book and disagree, I will send you my cell phone # and you can call and tell me why.

We need President Trump.

All the best.
