Marriage Expands in Missouri
Gay marriage won a milestone legal battle in Missouri as gay couples married in other states will now have those marriages recognized here. Read it here.
Pull Quote: A Kansas City judge ruled Friday that the marriages of Missouri gay couples wed in states or countries where such relationships are legally recognized must be honored by their home state. The ruling affects more than 5,400 Missouri couples who were married in places where same-sex marriages are legally recognized, including states such as Illinois and Iowa. The decision by Circuit Judge J. Dale Youngs is the first by any judge affirming same-sex marriage in Missouri. It came eight days after oral arguments in the case, heard at the Jackson County Courthouse in downtown Kansas City… The case before Youngs was not asking for Missouri’s constitutional ban on gay marriage to be overturned, only that the state allow marriages performed legally elsewhere to be recognized.
