Thanksgiving
Just a quick update since things are “moving fast.” Happy Thanksgiving…
We’re On for Next Week Apparently
In case you missed it… the expectation now is that Governor Jay Nixon will emerge on Friday with a special session call starting Monday, December 2.
The Backlash
Jeanette Mott Oxford, executive director of Missouri Association for Social Welfare: “Where is the sense of urgency about neighbors in need?
“One out of four Missouri families with children faces food insecurity each year. More than 800,000 Missourians have no health insurance. Affordable housing is so scarce that three out of ten students in St. Louis Public Schools face at least once spell of homelessness annually. Our prisons are full of people whose incarceration could have been prevented with adequate and comprehensive community-based mental health care. No sense of urgency about any of these.
“A wealthy corporation sets off a new round of ‘rob your neighbor’ with other states, competing for jobs, and suddenly a Special Session may come as early as next week. Missouri’s fortunes will continue to go sour as long as we abandon our neighbors in need to focus on corporate giveaways. There are ‘then's’ for every ‘if’ we choose; Missouri needs to select better ‘if's.’”

@repckelly Re Boeing: MoLeg to go from no info to spending 000's of millions or billions in a week? Who can vet it that fast? Remember Moberley.
Reader texts me: “Special session for kids and parents and schools caught in student transfer chaos – no way. Special session for ‘Bombardier2: The Sequel’ – we will cancel Christmas if necessary to give a corporation a tax break.”
