Senate 24: Schupp Steams Along
Tomorrow Rep. Jill Schupp is having the grand opening for her campaign office: 11052 Olive Blvd., Creve Coeur, MO 63141 (Just west of Graeser, across from Red Racks store, in plaza with Pumpernickles Deli and Thai Nivas). Contact Bonnie@JillSchupp.com to RSVP or for more information.
But Schupp’s June 4 event looks like a monster fundy… Hosts are said to be kicking in $500 and the supporters are paying $250. Schupp apparently doesn’t list folks who aren’t contributing, so do the math and it looks like strong event…

And… Get Jacked for MO?
Attorney Jack Spooner running in the Senate 24 Republican primary against Jay Ashcroft has his website up. It includes a page aims at motivating younger voters to get involved in his campaign… “Get Jacked for MO.”
Marshall Contra AAA
MO Corn’s Gary Marshall cancelled his AAA membership because he’s angry with that organization’s statements about increasing the ethanol component.
Pull Quote: In terms of possible engine damage, E15 is sold in 12 other states with no issues reported. We are unaware of AAA’s Roadside Assistance program picking up a single driver stranded alongside the road due to an engine issue caused by E15… On a personal note, I have been a member of AAA for 33 years. I refuse to support an organization so clearly aligned with the oil industry and am cancelling my AAA membership effective immediately. I will also be informing our members and supporters of my actions and the reasons for this decision.
Schweich’s Real Campaign
Auditor Tom Schweich, despite being unopposed in his re-election, is still running a real campaign. He’s made political stops in about 20 different counties over the past month. If this is any indication, we might actually see a fair amount of his war-chest being deployed over the next five months. If so, that would surely help his polling numbers… which GOP folks may be looking at December 2014 as they start positioning for 2016….
Dooley-Stenger Tangle
Post-Dispatch’s Steve Giegerich reports… “In an inkling of what awaits in the approaching Democratic campaign for St. Louis County executive, incumbent Charlie Dooley and challenger Steve Stenger clashed Tuesday night over a proposed audit of improprieties in the county health department.”
The mighty Jason Rosenbaum has the audio. It’s about 9 minutes long, and kind of fun. Listen to it here.
Only two months until the primary. Time for these guys to stop the small-ball slap fights at County Council meetings and break this fight into the open. The longer Stenger waits to go center-ring the harder it will be to score the upset on Dooley.
Bits
The Democrats’ big “Jefferson-Jackson” dinner/fundraiser is Saturday June 7. They will give former US Senator Jean Carnahan a lifetime achievement award.
Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal is interviewed by Jo Mannies, Dale Singer and the mighty Jason Rosenbaum. The whole interview revolves around the student transfer issue. She says that there are ten representatives that supporters of SB 493 can “pick up” in pursuit of a veto override. Mannies says that Speaker Tim Jones is less optimistic. She also asks Governor Jay Nixon to “look down at his hands,” because he’ll see blood on them… Listen to it here.
Post-Dispatch’s Tim Bryant reports that “St. Louis Circuit Judge Robert Dierker issued an order prohibiting the city’s Election Board from putting the measure on a ballot. Dierker’s ruling is a defeat for Missourians Organizing for Reform and Empowerment, or MORE, which led a petition effort to block tax incentives for any company that engages in “unsustainable” energy production — or does $1 million a year in business with such an entity… Dierker’s ruling is in a suit filed by Jane Dueker, a lawyer and former Peabody lobbyist.” Read it here.
Help Wanted
Office of Attorney General “has an opening in its Cape Girardeau office for an Assistant Attorney General to serve as a local office manager while working in the office’s Labor Division. The office manager will be responsible for the daily operation of the office and the staff. In addition to the office manager duties, the attorney will primarily practice workers’ compensation defense for claims filed against the State of Missouri's Second Injury Fund and claims filed by state employees...” See the ad here.
