Driving the Day: Scism Kicks Off
Kent Scism kicks off his campaign for Senate 3 today.
The press release: Scism grew up on a farm and raised livestock from an early age. His father built a Ford tractor dealership and later purchased a Ford Motor Company dealership when Kent was young. Kent started working for his father’s dealership at the age of 13, where he spent his evenings and weekends washing cars, sweeping floors, and doing every task imaginable.
While not working, Kent attended Park Hills Central where he played basketball, football, and ran track. Kent later attended Missouri State and after graduating he returned to work at Scism Ford. He has been married to his wife Angie for 32 years and together they have three daughters…
Kent has spent his career building his father’s dealership, Sam Scism Ford, into a large and profitable business operation…. Kent’s life experience has led him to have a real understanding of the challenges facing today’s entrepreneurs, small businesses, and youth…
Kent was devastated at the age of 13 by the loss of his mother due to a stroke. Unfortunately, it took more than an hour and a half for her to get to the nearest hospital for treatment – and by then it was too late. Kent’s family suffered another tragedy when he and his wife lost a daughter to the current opioid epidemic. As a result of these tragic experiences, Kent is passionate about ensuring everyone has access to quality, affordable healthcare and he is committed to protecting our children and community from the dangers of the drug cartels that are flooding our market with highly dangerous and family-destroying drugs like heroin, fentanyl, and others.
“I am running because I am passionate about my community and I want to do everything I can to see it thrive,” said Scism. “I have been humbled by the tremendous support I have received in this community throughout my life and I am dedicated to continuing my lifetime of service in the State Senate.”
And
It appears that Scism is doing his best to sew up the Senate 3 race before it begins. While there’s still months before filing opens, it’s been pretty quiet. No Republicans have come forward to challenge Scism, and I haven’t heard any Democratic names being floated.
In the meantime, Scism’s fundraiser tonight has assembled a strong host committee. See it here.
Bold faced names include lobbyists Andy Blunt, and Steven Tilley, and businessmen Terry Braxton, Paul Brockmiller, and Howard Wood.
Driving the Weekend: Deer Hunting
Firearms deer hunting opens this weekend. See it here.
We’ll know things are particularly desperate for Team Galloway if her social media feed shows her holding the antlers of a dead Bambi.
We’ll see….
Parson Hits Core Issues
Two press releases yesterday show Governor Mike Parson returning to his core themes of workforce development and infrastructure.
· Today, Governor Mike Parson announced the award of more than $7.8 million to 226 projects across Missouri for customized training assistance through the Department of Economic Development’s Missouri One Start program… Missouri One Start is one of the key workforce development initiatives included in Senate Bill 68, which was signed into law in July….
· Yesterday, construction on the first bridge to be replaced under Governor Mike Parson’s Focus on Bridges program began in northeast Missouri. Work to replace the Route JJ bridge over Price’s Branch near Bellflower in Montgomery County is scheduled to be completed next May… Under the Governor’s transportation plan, the Missouri legislature included $50 million in general revenue in the fiscal year 2020 state budget to repair or replace approximately 45 bridges throughout the state and another $50 million for a cost-share program…
What It Means
· With unemployment near historic lows, and fears of a recession fading, this is exactly what the incumbent governor wants to be talking about.
· Unfortunately for Team Parson, it’s very likely that between President Donald Trump’s twitter account, and the no-exception, pro-life wing of his Party, keeping the focus on economic issues will be an on-going challenge.
