MOScout Daily Update: Justice, Shawan Trade Blows - Perry as Greitens - Brady PAC Endorses Galloway and more...

Primaries on Fire

Forget the summer heat, we’re starting to feel primary heat now as campaigns are in full attack mode….

In Senate 25…

·         Eddy Justice on Jeff Shawan… “Might as well call him Nancy.” See it here.

·         Eddy Justice on Jason Bean… “It’s moderates like Jason Bean who have wrecked America”  See it here.

·         Shawan on Justice… Created “InsiderEddy.com” a website dedicated to attacking Justice.  See it here.  And this TV ad calls Justice a hardcore ‘Never Trumper.’”

In Senate 27…

·         Kathy Swan’s campaign says “Holly Rehder’s campaign sent local TV stations a letter from a Kansas City law firm in an attempt to intimidate them into pulling an ad exposing Holly Rehder’s record as a lobbyist…”

Special Session Schedule

Post-Dispatch reports on the special session schedule.  See it here.  Although the Senate will gavel in on the Monday July 27, it looks like the Senate won’t bring anything to the floor until after the August primary.

The legislation will go to Sen. Doug Libla’s Transportation and Public Safety Committee.  One Republican observer quipped about that committee hearing: “Excited for the interaction between [Libla] and Jamilah [Nasheed] and Karla [May].  If we stay off CNN, I’ll be happy…”

And

Complicating the special session is the apparent spread of coronavirus through legislative staff.  Despite a lot of working from home, I’m told several House staffer have tested positive…

Schmidt Gives to MO Dems

File under celebrity giving… Eric Schmidt, former CEO of Google, is listed in the large contributions (below) giving $9,700 to the Missouri Democratic State Committee.

I’ve updated the IE PACs that are allied with various candidates.  Find it here.

New additions…

·         Limited Government PAC – Rick Brattin (this is his 2nd IE PAC).

·         Truth in Campaigns PAC – John Rizzo.

More Ads

·         Rep. Sonya Anderson running for Greene County Commissioner.  See it here.  “Raised on a farm, Sonya Anderson can smell liberal bull from Jeff City, St. Louis, and DC…”

·         Will Perry, running in House 148 (Rehder seat) pulls a Greitens, shooting and blowing up something in a Facebook video.  See it here.

Brady PAC Hearts Galloway

Brady PAC, the sister organization of Brady, the nation’s oldest gun violence prevention advocacy group, is endorsing Nicole Galloway this morning.

I’m told we’ll see $25,000 from the PAC as well as “activating an army of more than 800,000 grassroots supporters with the goal of raising at least $100,000 for the campaign.”

Lack of Situational Awareness….

Post Dispatch reports that “Missouri continues to operate in the dark when it comes to the latest COVID-19 hospitalization data because of an abrupt switch last week by the White House in how data is collected… The Missouri Hospital Association’s weekly report — a summary of how hospitals in each of the state’s seven regions are doing in terms of available hospital beds, ventilators and protective equipment — has not been updated since July 11.  The daily hospitalization information on the state health department’s COVID-19 data dashboard also has not been updated since July 12…  The White House on July 13 instructed hospitals to report data to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services through a new system created by a Pennsylvania-based company, TeleTracking, instead of to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  The change was made to help the federal health department quickly respond to hospitals’ needs for medications and other critical supplies. However, hospitals would typically have several weeks to prepare for such a change and work out kinks, Dillon said. Instead, they had two days. Hospitals had no idea the switch was coming…”

I’ve written previously that I watch the hospitalization numbers as the best indicator for how well we’re combatting the spread of the coronavirus.  Whereas more testing reveals more cases, sick people end up in the hospital regardless of whether they’ve been tested.

eMailbag on Galloway

Let me see if I have this straight, Galloway is BRAGGING about raising money off of the way she has politicized the school issue? That's nothing to be proud of…
