MOScout Daily Update: Galloway Raised $1.1M - New Ads from Scism, Gannon, Bean - Eigel on Dark $$ Attack - PPP List and more...

Galloway Announces Another Huge Quarter

The press release: Auditor Nicole Galloway’s campaign for Governor announced that the campaign raised $1,128,479 between April 1 and June 30. This is the largest amount raised by a candidate committee in Missouri in a single quarterly reporting period since the reintroduction of contribution limits in 2017. Galloway achieved this milestone without a single in-person fundraising event…

Q2 by the numbers:

·         12,468 total individuals made contributions since April 1

·         74% of these contributions (9,188) were first-time contributors to Galloway.

·         95% of all donors (11,812) made grassroots contributions (under $250)

·         $60 average contribution.

What It Means

It’s incredible that she hit it out of the park without any traditional fundraising events. Galloway’s clearly tapping into the Democratic enthusiasm in a presidential cycle with Trump at the top of the ticket.

New Ads in MO GOP Sen Primaries

·         In Senate 3, Kent Scism’s first TV ad is here.  We’re seeing a lot of Republican candidates wrapping themselves around President Trump.  Scism is no different.  The ad: Whether it’s standing up to China, standing down rioters, or restarting the economy, President Trump and Kent Scism know politics as usual is not good enough….

·         Also in Senate 3, Elaine Gannon is up with a radio spot.  Listen to it here.  Gannon touts her pro-life credentials as the only MRL endorsed candidate.  The ad closes with her support for Trump’s anti-illegal immigration policies.

·         And in Senate 25, Jason Bean’s first ad, says that he’s basically a local Donald TrumpSee it hereJust as conservative outsider Donald Trump emerged to make America Great Again, conservative outsider Jason Bean has emerged to make Southeast Missouri great again…  “I’ve been draining swamps my whole life, and that’s what I’ll do as your next state senator.”

One animated supporter of Eddy Justice has been posting videos on social media, grabbing a couple thousand views, giving his take on Senate 25.  See them here, and here, and here.

Eigel on Dark Money Attack

Sen. Bill Eigel’s statement on my blurb yesterday about an attack mailer from Voters for Good Government: “It’s unfortunate that with all the important things happening on August 4th—from open primaries to a ballot measure to expand Medicaid—a couple Republican consultants and a major Republican donor are most worried about fooling St Charles County voters into thinking I am for abortion and higher taxes.  Their efforts will fail because St Charles voters know me better than the smear pieces give them credit for.  Whether today or on August 5th, my hope is that all Republicans will set aside these political hits so we can focus on the importance of winning the November General Election.”

And

An important development on this front yesterday.  Voters for Good Government sent $40K to the pro-Eddy Justice PAC, Justice for All PAC.  That seems to indicate that the $390K which Americans for Limited Government sent to Voters for Good Government will be split among at least a few races.  It won’t all be directed at Eigel.

PPP List

The U.S. Department of Treasury made public the list of Payroll Protection Program loans.  They didn’t identify the recipients of the smaller loans (those under $150K), but there were some Jeff City names among the big loans.  It’s an indication how very few sectors have been spared during the government mandated showdown. Among those listed…

·         John Bardgett & Associates ($150K-$350K)

·         Gamble & Schlemeier ($150K-$350K)

·         Pelopidas LLC ($350K-$1M)

·         MariCorp US LLC ($350K-$1M)

·         Leo O’Laughlin Inc ($350K-$1M)

·         Schatz Underground Inc ($1M-$2M)

Gov Signs SB 600

The press release: Governor Mike Parson signed SB 600 to help address violent crime in Missouri. SB 600 modifies and creates several provisions relating to dangerous felonies, including offenses of conspiracy, unlawful possession of firearms, criminal street gangs, and vehicle hijacking…

eMailbag on Anti MedEx

Despite inaccurate rumors to the contrary, there will be a VERY vigorous opposition campaign to Amendment 2, MO Medicaid Expansion. That campaign has now gone “live” and all current information may be found here: https://www.noon2inaugust.com/

The opposition will be led by the top level leadership of MO’s elected officials...from the Gov (see Gov’s video on website) to the LG’s extremely statesmanlike explanation as to why MO cannot afford expansion (see LG’s video on website) to House & Senate leadership & Budget leaders, to the grassroots all across the State, etc.

Historically, August typically favors a strong GOP/conservative electorate turnout so Medicaid opposition immediately benefits from this advantage.

Further, with the campaign being heavily supported, from the Gov’s office, on down to House & Senate appropriators who may have to deal with this mess...win or lose, Medicaid proponents have now been given notice that they will be met with a united opposition front when they come to Jefferson City with their hands out in 2021.

eMailbag on Sinquefield and MedEx

[I will be] absolutely shocked if Sinquefield opposes Medicaid expansion, no way he will be that that foolish or getting that poor of advice.  It would create new enemies for airport privatization… The African American community will be livid if he single-handedly stops Medicaid expansion to their community.  African Americans will decide the fate of the airport.  Not to mention it would make the hill that much tougher to climb on education reform and tax reform….
