MOScout Daily Update: New Galloway Ad - New Schupp Ad - More Floor Leader Talk - $100K to CLEAN - Quade Seeks Schroer Care to Ethics and more...
Galloway Ad
Auditor Nicole Galloway released her first gubernatorial TV ad. See it here. It’s called “urgency,” and Galloway speaks fast with a subtle drumbeat behind her.
The ad hits Parson as Galloway simply refers to “him” and “he.”
The tag: We can’t have a governor who does so little. I’ll do things differently – with a sense of urgency.
Driving the Day: Protesters Head to Capitol as House Votes
Protesters are expected to rally around the capitol again. From their call to action: WE HAVE TO STOP THEM FROM CREATING LAWS THAT WILL ONLY REINFORCE MASS INCARCERATION AND CRIMINALIZATION.
Latest Schupp Ad
In CD-2, Democrat Jill Schupp released her second TV ad. See it here.
The ad’s titled 98 degrees and focused on her work as a school board member…
“It's just common sense. In a 98 degree classroom, kids are sweating -- not learning. So I did something I'd never considered. I ran for school board, I won, and we got the schools air-conditioned.”
Watching Money
In the large contributions today, there’s the parade of checks into HRCC from their summer caucus. One pro-Trent supporter says HRCC fundraising shows that “Plocher and his supporters have been less successful or are holding back…”
And
Action Now Initiative, the liberal advocacy organization from Houston TX, sent $100K into the CLEAN committee.
More on Floor Leader Race
I’m told the rumor of Curtis Trent supporting Rep. Dale Wright’s challenger is 100% false. Trent even knocked door for Wright. There’s a conflation between Young Americans for Liberty and pro-Trent supporters. YAL supported Wright’s opponent, not Trent.
And
One pro-Plocher source offers this snapshot of the race: Trent's vote count is 61; Plocher's is 78. If you deduct the standard 20%, you end up with something closer to the real numbers.
Quade Calls for Ethics Investigation into Schroer
In a formal letter to Speaker Elijah Haahr, Minority Leader Crystal Quade asks for the Ethics Committee to investigate the controversy revolving around Rep. Nick Schroer’s residency. “As stated in the petition, Rep. Schroer removed his residency from the 107th District and then constructed an elaborate fraud to make it appear he had not. As speaker, you cannot turn a blind
eye to these allegations… Doing what is necessary to take care of his family is commendable. Lying to his constituents and fraudulently clinging to an office he has forfeited is not. Please take all necessary actions in this matter to uphold the Missouri Constitution and preserve the integrity of the House of Representatives, including, but not limited to, referral to the House Ethics Committee for a full investigation…”
Reaction
· One Republican tells me there’s a “creep factor” to the Dems hiring a private investigator to surveil Schroer’s sleeping arrangements.
· Also everyone I’ve talked to thinks the idea of separating from your family so you can keep your state rep office is ridiculous. Either you’re not really doing it, or you have wacked priorities.
Peters Return?
It’s former Rep. Joshua Peters’ birthday today. And one politico noticed a new op/ed from him in the St. Louis American (see it here), and mused: I wonder if he’s looking at making for another office…
Grain Belt Announces Boost in Plans
Press release: As the new owner of Grain Belt, Invenergy Transmission plans to increase the project’s delivery capacity to Kansas and Missouri to up to 2,500 megawatts of the line’s 4,000-megawatt capacity. This is equivalent to the energy usage of up to 2.4 million Kansans and Missourians and responds to growing local demand for clean energy. Previously, 500 megawatts of the transmission line’s capacity was slated for delivery to Missouri…
With increased delivery to Missouri, including an expanded DC to AC converter station, Grain Belt will double its overall economic investment in Missouri to $1 billion. Many of Missouri’s largest companies, communities and energy suppliers have set clean energy goals, and Grain Belt will now make available as much as half or more of the project’s total capacity for Missourians….
