MOScout Daily Update: Akin Passes - Gregory Adds $$$ - Gresham for School Board - Treece Orders to End Committee - The Fav/Unfavs and more...

Akin Passes

Jo Mannies tweeted early this morning: Former St. Louis area GOP congressman Todd Akin died late Sunday, according to his family's announcement. Akin, 74, attracted national attention during his US Senate bid in 2012 when he said that victims of "legitimate rape'' rarely got pregnant because their bodies prevented it.

Gregory Adds $$$ At Deadline

Rep. David Gregory, running for state auditor, recorded two big checks at the end of September.  He wrote a $250,000 check himself to his campaign committee, Gregory For Missouri, and he received a $100,000 contribution from Joe Patterson into his allied political action committee, Show Me Growth PAC.

Both checks will bolster his fundraising numbers when his quarterly results are filed.

·         Gregory’s primary opponent, Treasurer Scott Fitzpatrick has similarly anted in $250,000 into his campaign account.

·         Patterson ran for state representative in 2018, losing narrowly in the Republican primary to Michael O’Donnell. Patterson, one MOScouter chuckled, must believe more in Gregory than he did in himself, because this $100K far exceeds what he put into his own race.

About The Fav/UnFavs

Last weekend’s MOScout/Remington poll looked at Republican voters’ feelings toward a variety of people and entities.

It shows why…

·         Every US Senate primary candidate wants Donald Trump’s endorsement… His GOP fav/unfav is sky high: 83%/14%.

·         Eric Greitens probably has a low ceiling in the race and needs a splintered field… His fav/unfav is 34%/40%

·         Greitens is throwing punches at Mitch McConnell… His GOP fav/unfav is underwater: 31%/37%

·         Team Gregory is pumped about their first responder endorsements… MFOP fav/unfav is 60%/9% and Firefighters is 62%/7%.

·         Team Fitzpatrick is touting Mike Parson’s support… his fav/unfav is 61%/20%.

Gresham for School Board

News Tribune reports Adam Gresham, chief of staff to Lt. Gov. Mike Kehoe, is seeking one of two openings on the Jefferson City School District Board of Education in the April 2022 election, Gresham announced Friday… Gresham said too many graduates are unprepared to enter the workforce, the armed forces or higher education…”

Guardian on MO “COVID Culture Wars”

Missouri’s COVID “culture wars” was the focus of an article yesterday in the Guardian.

The boarded-up storefront of Rae’s Cafe in Blue Springs, Missouri, does not look much like a Covid-19 battleground – but it has become a cause célèbre of the anti-masking movement since owner Amanda Wohletz began a campaign in July to defy local Jackson county mask mandates imposed after Delta variant infections surged…
