MOScout Daily Update: FRA Talk - Pompeo for Ashcroft - Fauci New 2022 Issue? - Haubrich Antes $100K and more...

FRA Talk

I’m told there’s a call scheduled next week between the governor’s office and Senate leadership to try to suss out the path forward on FRA.

There seem to be only three logical “paths” for them to consider.

·         Stand behind Onder/Wieland language and break a Dem filibuster.

·         Find some compromise language that doesn’t ban federally-approved services.

·         Tell Onder/Wieland to shove it and go find a flip or two to beat their amendment.

The third path seems most unlikely because it’s hard enough to peel away pro-life votes, but especially now with the added heat from Biden’s proposed move on the Hyde Amendment.

Meanwhile

Missouri Independent reports that Senate Minority Leader John Rizzo is poo-pooing any special session in the near term. “Before we can even begin to have the discussion about FRA or Medicaid expansion or anything, there has to be serious fence mending in the Senate,” Senate Majority Leader John Rizzo said. “There has to be a basic level of understanding on how we are going to move forward after the last week of session.”

And Jason Hancock tweeted that if “an FRA extension is not passed by July 4, it cannot take effect Oct. 1 without an emergency clause allowing it to become law immediately upon Parson’s signature.”

And Then There Were Four…

Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler appears to be set to announce her US Senate candidacy on June 10.

Fauci As 2022 Campaign Issue?

Axios calls Dr. Anthony Fauci “Trump’s New Hillary.”  Read it hereTrump and conservative media have made Fauci an improbable face of the opposition, trying to give him the cartoon-villain status once accorded to former Sen. Harry Reid, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, or — in Trump’s case — Hillary Clinton.

In MO: Mark McCloskey on Wednesday called for Fauci to be fired. And has since made him a topic of tweets. Fauci isn't an expert— he's a fraud.

MO’s Messy Vax Data

Kaiser News Service reports on Missouri’s messy COVID vaccine data.  See it here.

·         Missouri’s public covid data appears to show robust data on vaccination rates broken down by race and ethnicity. But several groups are seen lagging far behind on vaccinations, including African Americans, who appear to have a vaccination rate of just 17.6%, nearly half of the 33% rate for the state as a whole.

·         To Dr. Rex Archer, director of the Kansas City health department, one number is a giveaway that this data isn’t right. It shows a completed vaccination rate of 64% for “multiracial” Missourians. Such an exceptionally high rate for one group beggars belief, according to Archer.  “So, there’s some huge problem with the way the state is collecting race and ethnicity under covid vaccination,” Archer said.

·         Missouri state officials have acknowledged since February that this data is wrong, but they haven’t managed to fix it or explain exactly what’s causing it. Archer suggested the inflated multiracial rate is probably due to different racial data being reported when individuals receive first and second shots.

·         Other problems have been detected, including missing racial and ethnic data for many people who have been vaccinated, and the use of multiple categories such as “other” and “unknown.”

·         Health officials are working to target vaccination campaigns in communities where rates are low, but Archer said the state’s data provides little help.

Kyle Haubrich, running in House 113, put $100,000 into his campaign committee as an effort perhaps to freeze out any primary opponents.  Rep. Dan Shaul is termed.  This was once considered a swing JeffCo district, but Republicans seem to have seized that part of the state dependably.
