MOScout Daily Update: October Fundraising Numbers - Ashcroft Against Sexy Books - Bax to Stinson - Price to AFLCIO - MOChamber Adds Staff and more...

October campaign finance reports came in yesterday…

Senate 24

Tracy McCreery raised $191,019; spent $536,360; and has $345,997 on-hand (with $100K in debt).  Her associated PAC, Serve Missouri, raised $143,100; spent $2,116; and has $328,980 on-hand.

George Hruza raised $125,285; spent $216,138; and has $61,224 on-hand (with $201K in debt).

His associated PAC, Brighter Days for Missouri, raised $30,000; spent $29,840; and has $160 on-hand.

Bottomline: McCreery is winning the fundraising battle.  This explains why we’ve seen Hruza writing checks to his campaign.  But between Hruza’s self-funding and help from other Republicans, both sides should have adequate resources to get their message out.

The Ashcroft Rule

Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft proposed a new state regulation which would keep books with sex scene away from teens at public libraries!

Press release: [S]tate funds could not be used to purchase or acquire inappropriate materials in any form that appeal to the prurient interest of a minor. Libraries also would be required to honor a parent’s decision as to what material their child has access to in the library. Parents would have the right to challenge a library’s age-appropriate designation for any material.  “When state dollars are involved, we want to bring back local control and parental involvement in determining what children are exposed to,” said Ashcroft. “Foremost, we want to protect our children.”
