We are committed to the principles that the state exists to preserve freedom, that the separation of governmental powers is central to our Constitution, and that it is emphatically the province and duty of the judiciary to say what the law is, not what it should be.
Rowden Enters Drag Show Fray
Drag shows have been the latest flashpoint in Missouri’s cultural war. And an episode in the Columbia appears to have stirred Pro Tem Caleb Rowden, vowing to “use all the resources at his disposal.”
Rowden tweeted last night… My office has been inundated with calls & emails re: grade school kids being forced to sit through a drag show at this morning's #CoMO Diversity Breakfast. We have heard from parents whose kids attended who are obviously very upset. I have asked for a meeting with the CPS [Superintendent] and members of the CPS Board to voice these concerns, hear from them on the process that led to this series of events, and gather information to determine what next steps need to be taken at the legislative level. I will use all the resources at my disposal to stand up for kids and their parents, especially in instances where they don't feel like their voice is being heard. #MOLeg
Abortion Lawsuit
Missouri Independent reports on a lawsuit seeking to overtook Missouri’s abortion ban… When Missouri lawmakers put the words “Almighty God is the author of life” into the section of law stating the General Assembly’s intent for abortion regulations, they crossed the line separating church and state, a lawsuit filed Thursday in St. Louis charges.
· Pro-life advocate Sam Lee tweets it’s a publicity stunt: No state court will strike down a statute because it includes the words “Almighty God,” when the words "Almighty God” are already in Article I, Section 5 of the Missouri Constitution.
