MOScout Weekender: Burger Committee Amendment - MO Mapper on Senate 24 - Schmitt Setback - Hallway on 2024 - WWTW and more...

The MOScout/Remington weekly poll will return next week.

Burger Expands Horizon?

For those who keep an eye on committee amendments… Rep. Jamie Burger has changed the name of his campaign committee from Committee to Re-elect Jamie Burger HD #148 to Burger for Missouri.  See the paperwork here.

Burger is Assistant Floor Leader of the House, thought to be position to run for Floor Leader in two years. But lots of capitol denizens think that Sen. Holly Rehder is considering a statewide bid (LG would be the best guess) in which case Burget could pivot to run for state senate.

We’ll see…

Exclusive: Missouri Mapper Dissects Senate 24 Race

The “Missouri Mapper” (find him on Twitter here) takes a look at the Senate 24 race from last year.

See that report here.

Interesting nugget from the report: Mark Mantovani won Senate 24 in his bid to unseat Sam Page as County Executive.  Otherwise, the district voted reliably Democratic up and down the ballot.

Schmitt Setback

Rollcall reportsSenate Republicans denied newly elected Sen. Eric Schmitt the waiver he was seeking to serve on the Judiciary Committee. The Missouri Republican now needs to make new committee assignment requests, which is expected to delay the formal organization of Senate committees into next week…

Had he gotten the waiver, Schmitt would have needed another Republican to step aside, since there was little appetite to remove a current member. No one has volunteered to step down from Judiciary at this time…

Who Won the Week?

Physical therapists – For years they’ve been trying to change the law so they can see patients without a physician referral first.  This might be the year.  With a quick start their bill is sitting 4th on Senate perfection calendar.

Burns & McDonnell – Landing $62 million in shocking lawsuit.

Mike Parson – Takes a victory lap from children advocates for the inclusion of some big-ticket items (early childhood education, child care subsidies) that have bipartisan appeal.

IP fans – Realtors’ Sam Licklider sent a warning shot to those who would change the initiative petition process: don’t go too far, or you’ll face some deep pocketed opposition.
