MOScout Daily Update: Eigel the Outsider - Alford for Rehder - More SPorts Betting IPs and more...

Quick Friday update, and I’m off for a long weekend…

Eigel the Outsider

Sen. Bill Eigel replied to MOIndy’s report of criticism from Missouri Chamber President Dan Mehan: “I don’t care what The Swamp thinks.”

It’s an on-message quote.  Eigel is running as an outsider in the three-way gubernatorial primary.  Jay Ashcroft, by virtue of his last name, is an establishment figure.  And Eigel will try to paint Lieutenant Governor Mike Kehoe as an insider as well.

See similar messaging in Eigel’s new online video: There’s a new day on the horizon in the Show Me State.  A day in which the people who have been ignored, neglected abandoned and forgotten will be overlooked no more.  A day in which Jefferson City works for us, not for special interests and the lobbyists…

·       The problem for Eigel: He’s not a real outsider.  He’s more of an inside agitator.  He’s been in Jefferson City for 7 years, with a voting record that will be picked apart if his opponents feel he’s gaining traction.

Alford for Rehder

Congressman Mark Alford gave a boost to Sen. Holly Thompson Rehder, headlining her shrimp boil / fundraiser last night which I’m told had 200 people in attendance.

More Sports Betting IPs

8 more sports betting initiative petitions were filed as the professional teams continue to inch their way forward on a path to circumvent the legislature in on this issue.

See IP filings here.

MO Cameos

·       St. Louis makes a cameo in this NYTimes article about climate change…. In St. Louis, 8-year-old Riley Vasser achieved a childhood rite of passage, learning to ride her bike for the first time. But it was a short-lived triumph… Riley has sensitive skin and suffered from a heat rash in the broiling temperatures in St. Louis, which regularly hovered in the 90s in July and August.

·       Mizzou finds itself in the middle of a Twitter/X controversy.  Read it hereOver the last 24 hours, a Reliable Sources review found advertisements for a cohort of major companies and organizations have appeared directly on the verified profile account of VDARE, an openly racist, white supremacist outlet that publishes some of the most vile content on the internet. Those companies and organizations include Amazon, Samsung, the Denver Broncos, Cox Communications, STARZ, The Wall Street Journal, The Michael J. Fox Foundation, the University of Missouri, New York Waterway, Axios, Puck, Ad Age, Morning Brew, and the Asian Development Bank….

·       Amid the Congressional speaker-chaos, Rep. Jason Smith is a signee of a letter seeking to rescind the low barrier to making the motion to remove the speaker.  See the letter here.

Gubby Appts

Governor Mike Parson announced judicial appointments to the 6th, 21st, and 22nd Judicial Circuits…
