MOScout Daily Update: Malek's Next Move? - Henderson Announces for Senate 3 - Schmitt Touts First Year and more...

Malek’s Next Move?

One building denizen thinks that State Treasurer Vivek Malek should turn his anti-China eyes toward MOST.

“Given Treasurer Malek’s statements on why MOSERS should divest from China, why isn’t there a disclaimer on the MOST 529 page about the dangers in investing in those funds that include exposure to China?”

Malek’s crusade to rid the Missouri employee retirement system of its Chinese investments was a political winner.  MOST would be the next logical step.

“The Treasurer is the chair of the board that governs MOST 529, with other members being Governor Parson appointees (166.415, RSMo).  It would seem that if MOSERS should divest from China, parents saving for college should be presented with at least a warning about what some of the funds the Treasurer has in MOST 529’s options to choose.”

Worth noting… one of the providers of those funds with China exposure is DFA, who was founded by a pretty well-known name in investing and Missouri politics.

Most international equity funds have China exposure.  As well as the international bond funds, like this one…

Henderson Announces for Senate 3

Rep. Mike Henderson officially declared himself a candidate for Senate 3.  See the official announcement here.

“Serving the people of this region has been a tremendous honor, and after much consultation, prayer, and input from family and friends I have decided to seek office in the State Senate so I can continue serving as a voice for our priorities.  I am proud of the work that we have done in recent years, including lowering taxes, reducing the size of government, and protecting the sanctity of life.  I will continue fighting for these same conservative values in the Missouri Senate.”

·       Henderson serves as Speaker Pro Tempore of the House.

Schmitt Touts First Year

Team Schmitt is touting his first year as a US Senator.  Here’s the rollcall of bills he introduced…

·       The ERASER Act, which requires administrative agencies to repeal three regulations before enacting one new regulation

·       The COLLUDE Act, which would strip big tech companies of their Section 230 protections if they work with the federal government to censor speech

·       The Censorship Accountability Act, which would allow individual citizens to sue federal bureaucrats if they collude with big tech companies to censor their speech.

·       The JETSET Act, which would require Secretary Buttigieg and senior Department of Transportation officials to take commercial airlines instead of private planes, saving taxpayer money.

·       The Launch Communications Act, which would streamline spectrum access applications for commercial space launches. This bill passed the Senate in October of 2023.

·       The WATCH Act, which would require foreign labs that are receiving federal funding to be held to the same standards as domestic labs.

·       The Military Career Support Services Act, which would expand eligibility for reimbursement of qualified licensure, certification, and business relocation costs incurred by military spouses. Language from this bill was included in the final version of the NDAA.

·       The Abolish DEI in Government Act, which would eliminate dozens and dozens of DEI offices in agencies across the federal government.

·       The End COVID Tyranny Act, which would ban masks in federal head start programs, require Congressional approval for the CDC and NIH directors, and more.

·       The Stop Woke Investing Act, which would cut down on woke investing by reforming the proxy system.

·       The No Tax Dollars for the United Nations Climate Agenda Act, which would prohibit taxpayer funds from being deposited in the UN’s Green Climate Fund.
