MOScout Daily Update: Trump Calls Roe "Kiss of Death" - Jones Apologizes (sort of) - Gardner Down to 2 Prosecutors and more...
Quick Friday update…
Trump Calls Roe “Kiss of Death”
Former President Donald Trump in touting new polls numbers tagged Axiom CEO Jeff Roe as the “kiss of death.” See it here.
Ron [DeSantis’] poll numbers are dropping so fast and furious that many people are speculating he’s not going to run. He just hired kiss of death Jeff Roe. He’s the kiss of death. I can tell you a lot of people that we defeated who were represented by Jeff Roe. Kiss of death…
· The latest Wall Street Journal poll (see it here) has Trump leading the Republican presidential field with 48% over DeSantis’ 24%.
Another Prosecutor Exits
KSDK reports that yet another attorney has resigned from the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s office. It’s a true emergency situation. Read it here.
As of mid-February, six prosecutors had more than 470 felony cases split between them – and now, there are only two. Sources familiar with his departure confirm Assistant Circuit Attorney Nick Lake has announced his last day with the office is April 28. Lake’s exit marks the latest in a series of resignations from St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner’s Office in recent weeks…
· Reminder of the Obvious: As utterly untenable as the current state of affairs are in Gardner’s office are right now, it can get worse.
Jones Apologizes (Sort of)
Before the committee vote on HB 1169 Wednesday in the Emerging Issues Committee, Rep. Holly Jones, the bill sponsor, apologized (sort of) to the her fellow committee members who were on the receiving end from harassment from anti-vaxxers from around the country. The Riverfront Times wrote about it here.
· One Republican shared their in-box with me filled with spam email about the bill from fictious names that sound like Bart Simpson made them up… Hugh Jass, Dixie Wrecked, I.P. Freely…
I realize you guys have all gotten a whole lot of emails. And I wish I could apologize for that, but I can’t because that’s the system working right?.. I hate that you guys have had such a bad taste in your mouth about this. I’ve tried to work with each and every one of you. I have respect for each and every one of you… At no time did I ever intend for anyone to be bullied… or any personal information to go online… that was never the intention of this…
Miller Announces for House 117
Press release: Republican Mike Miller has announced his campaign for State Representative District 117 to replace term-limited Rep. Mike Henderson. Miller is a local small business owner, Army Veteran, Treasurer of the Saint Francois County Republican Central Committee, and a founding member of the St. Francois County Conservative Club…
“What we are seeing from radical liberals and the federal government is complete lunacy,” said Miller. “I am a no-nonsense kind of guy who believe we could use a lot more conservative common sense in our government. “I am 100% pro-life, an ardent supporter of our second amendment rights, and will bring a Christian-Conservative viewpoint of the world with me to the state capitol.”
What It Means
We’re about 16 months from the primary, but in solid Republican districts where they’ll likely be a primary, you can’t start too early. Folks are starting their committees and hiring consultants.
