MOScout Daily Update: Pereles “Goes for Jugular” - Anti-A3 Makes Late $1.3M Media Buy - Kehoe on Session Priorities - 24Hr Expenditure Reports and more…
Concord Fund Drops $1M Into Anti-A3 Effort
The Concord Fund – which is associated with Leo Leonard, and previously gave $4.5 million to the Will Scharf campaign – sent $1 million to the No on 3 committee.
Together with other big checks, the opposition to the pro-choice amendment has mounted a late stand against the ballot question. $2.2 million has come in during the past week. While still far less than the $30-ish million the pro-A3 committee has raised, it’s always easier to get to a No vote.
· The No campaign reported a $1.3 million media buy.
Senate 15: Pereles “Goes for Jugular”
The pro-Joe Pereles PAC, together with the Senate Dems’ Majority Forward, created a webpage attacking David Gregory for an assault charge back in 2014. See it here. They’ve sent out a mailer with a similar message and graphics as well.
· One observer: A little late in the game but maybe it still gets traction. It feels like to me there was hesitancy to use it. Maybe the recent polling as led to them saying it has to be done. That with the money he just dumped in. They must feel it’s obtainable and leaving it all on the table. Guess Pereles team feels it’s close enough to go for the jugular. But I would’ve led with it earlier because so much voting has already happened…

Kehoe on Priorities
Mike Kehoe gave an interview yesterday on NewsTalkSTL covering some of his priorities (should he win) for the next legislative session. He backed state control of the St. Louis police, cutting the state income tax, and trying once again to change the IP process. Listen to it here.
· Listing his top priorities: Crime, economy, education, and agriculture.
· On state control of STL Police: The state needs to get back involved in the St. Louis Police Department. I’ve been a very vocal proponent of that. The cops, who have been with me from Day One, are very vocal proponents of that. I’m from the city… I believe that we can do some things that we were able to do under state control, still working with local representatives by the way on that state control board…. You’re going to use local leaders to be on that police board that understand how important crime is, how important it is to our economy...
· On cutting the state income tax: Part of our economic development platform is eventually getting that state income tax of 4.7% down to zero. We believe there’s a responsible path to do that without cutting essential services. And again, Missourians will be much better off if they get to choose how to spend the money how they want to. And our economy will be much better off…
· On changing the IP process: It should be harder to put a question on our ballot to change our constitution… We definitely need to make sure people still have access to the ballot. I don’t want to cut access off. But I don’t want us to be a state where millionaires or billionaires can come in and put anything on the ballot they want…
Bean’s Giving
One politico is in disbelief that Sen. Jason Bean’s strategy of giving directly to Republican candidates instead of the “team” campaign committee will pay off.
“I’ve been doing this 16 years now and I’ve never seen a candidate for Floor Leader not give to the Senate Committee.”
