MOScout Daily Update: McCaskill on Biden Performance - Eigel Ads - Dem Gov Memo - Bailey Ad Reservations and more…
Quick Friday update…
McCaskill on Debate
Former Senator Claire McCaskill gives her honest assessment of President Joe Biden’s debate performance. See it here.
· Joe Biden had one thing he had to do tonight and he didn’t do it. He had one thing he had to accomplish, and that was reassure America that he was up to the job at his age. And he failed at that tonight.
· Now, does that mean that my phone blowing up with senators, and campaign operatives, and donors, big donors from all over the country, does that mean that Joe Biden is not going to be the candidate? I don’t know that. I think we’ll know a lot more in a few weeks how this plays out…
· I’m not the only one who’s heart is breaking right now. There’s a lot of people who watched this tonight and felt terrible for Joe Biden…
· Based on what I’m hearing from a lot of people… there is more than handwringing tonight. I do think people feel like that we are confronting a crisis.
Eigel’s Ad
Sen. Bill Eigel released this post-debate ad comparing Biden to Bernie from Weekend at Bernie’s. See it here. “It’s time to end this bad movie.”
And BILL PAC
BILL PAC, the pro-Eigel PAC, has a commercial up. I saw it run just before the Cards game yesterday. It focuses on illegal immigration. “Washington will fight us. Judges will defy us. But we won’t ask for permission.”
· I’m not sure how these independent PACs have their candidate reading a script and looking right at the camera in their ads. I guess that footage is left by the candidate committee on the web somewhere to be “found” by the PAC?
Bailey Backs Off A Bit on Buys
One media watcher tells me that Andrew Bailey’s PAC, Liberty and Justice PAC, has pulled back $185,000 worth of ad reservations for July in the Joplin and Kansas City markets.
· But… they still have over $2.3 million reserved through Election Day.
Dem Gov Poll
A memo is circulating based on a poll prepared and conducted by Show Me Victories for Crystal PAC. See it here.
It “shows that likely Democratic Missouri voters prefer Crystal Quade over Mike Hamra in the Democratic primary for Governor”
● Quade’s record on reproductive healthcare and education solidifies her strong support from among the Democratic base. Over 88% of likely Democratic primary voters find her record and position on reproductive healthcare and education as convincing reasons to support her.
● After hearing the positive priorities and positive biographies of each candidate, 76% of likely voters would vote for Crystal Quade. Mike Hamra comes away with 6% support, with 14% of likely voters still undecided.
● When Democratic voters were asked what issues were most important to them when they vote, they overwhelmingly stated reproductive rights/abortion, affordable healthcare, securing our Democracy, cost of living, and protecting public schools.
eMailbag on Christofanelli Poll
Releasing a memo from your own consultant showing you 6 points up which could just as easily have you 4 points down, and after you did multiple mailings, seems like an attempt to attract funders at best.
