MOScout Sunday6: Harris Youth Enthusiasm - Disconnected Youth - College-bound Optimism and more…
We’ll start with a couple of ways COVID changed our world…
1. Traffic enforcement. “In the early days of the pandemic in 2020, traffic stops by the police plummeted around the country, as fewer cars were on the road and as agencies instructed officers to avoid nonessential contact with the public. But in the months and years that followed, a distinct pattern formed in many cities: The cars came back in full force, but the traffic enforcement didn’t.”
2. Movies at home. “Young audiences haven’t returned to the movies in earnest since Covid, the number of screens in the U.S. is waning and it takes smash hits on IMAX-scale screens to sell tickets. Plus, Americans are evermore comfortable watching movies at home.”
3. Harris enjoys more enthusiasm among younger supporters than Trump. “18- to 29-year-old Harris supporters are far more likely to say they are extremely motivated to vote than Biden’s supporters in this age group were about a month ago.”
4. Disconnected youth rates higher in rural areas. Many of these young adults belong to a group known as “disconnected youth,” meaning they are neither in school nor working.
5. College-bound kids generally more optimistic.
6. Makes getting bitten by a dog not seem so bad…
