MOScout Daily Update: Dinkins Mulls Return - Hough Off Approps - Gray Machiner Adds Lobbyists - Hoskins Muscles Map Forward and more…

Dinkins Mulls Return

Former Rep. Chris Dinkins sparked some talk when her social media profile showed a new banner…

I’m told that “no decision has been made yet,” but that she’s “begun the process of actively exploring that by reaching out to previous supporters,” and she’s received “a lot of encouragement” from former colleagues, and others.

Rep. Tony Harbison, the current incumbent, is said to have upset a few groups…

·       Some conservatives don’t like his opposition to property tax reform and school choice.  For example, Americans for Prosperity’s Gary Hollis tweeted this recently.

·       Some Trump-ites shake a fist at his vote against the Trump map.

Missouri Entertainment Adds Lobbyists

Missouri Entertainment LLC – which appears to be a gray machine operator like Torch – added lobbyists.  It’s an indication that the issue is expected to once again be debated by the General Assembly in the coming months.

Missouri Entertainment’s website (see it here) promises “100% Legal - Automated ‘No Chance Game’ kiosks” to “Increase Revenue, The Fun Way.”

In Compliance with Missouri state law, these kiosks are designed to offer No Chance Games where players of the game can view the next play and see if there is a winning prize in it, and decide to play or quit. This way the game is more about choice than a “Random Chance”.

Businesses around the state have been successfully using these kiosks to generate additional revenue with ease. We guarantee that you these machines will add to your revenue…

The players will love the exciting & state of the art games our kiosks have to offer. Your customers will love coming back for more…

Hough Off Approps?

It appears that Sen. Lincoln Hough, previously removed as Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee is now off the committee altogether.

What It Means

One more move that will make next session in the Senate a more acrimonious place…

Map Update

Judge Chris Limbaugh ruled that the legislature does have the power to do federal redistricting outside of the once-a-decade timeframe.  See the ruling here.

But with People Not Politicians delivering over 300,000 signatures for a referendum vote the legal fight has moved on.

From the Missouri Independent’s latest articleSecretary of State Denny Hoskins says [the signatures] won’t stop the map from going into effect on Thursday… The decision to let the map go into effect is sure to go before the courts… Hoskins said he’s relying on an opinion from Attorney General Catherine Hanaway in his decision on whether the law takes effect, which is a departure from past precedent. Hanaway advised his office, he said, that a federal court ruling means provisions suspending a law when a referendum is pending only apply after the signatures are shown to be sufficient to force a vote… If the map takes effect Thursday, county clerks and local election boards will be asked to update voter rolls to show which district includes each voter. And it means the new map would be used for candidate filing that begins in February….

Nurrenbern Named Hunt-Kean Leadership Fellow

Sen. Maggie Nurrenbern was named to the latest cohort of Hunt-Kean Leadership Fellows, “a bipartisan program that has become the nation’s premier training ground for education policymakers.”

The Fellowship brings together lawmakers, governors, attorneys general, and other state leaders who share a common goal: moving beyond partisan divisions to develop education policies that work for students. Since its inception, the program has equipped 292 elected officials with the research, strategy, and collaborative networks needed to drive meaningful reform in their home states.

JCity Renters Be Aware…

One MOScouter issues this warning to folks returning to Jefferson City next month… For any readers that rent places in Jeff City but don't stay there during the interim, the city created a new auto-pay system for sewer... But they didn't automatically migrate anybody over who was on auto-pay.  So if you were on auto-pay, they are no longer taking your money and your sewer is scheduled to get shut off in January…
