MOScouter: There were a lot of people who deserve praise for pulling this package across the finish line, but no one deserves it more than Drew Dampf. He busted his ass moving his boss’s priority and he benefited from the many years he’s spent cultivating respect within the Senate. Members knew they were dealing with an honest broker who had been entrusted with decision-making authority when Drew entered their office alone. Of course, Mike Kehoe is a master relationship builder and his personal touch was pivotal with many members. Others who deserve recognition are Sens. New Police Takeover Suit
Two St. Louis activists, Jamala Rogers and Mike Milton, filed suit alleging that HB 495, the St. Louis police takeover is unconstitutional. See the filing here.
Their arguments…
· The Hancock Amendment prohibits the State from imposing unfunded mandates on political subdivisions such as the City… The State Takeover Law imposes an unfunded mandate on the City, creating new minimum funding requirements that the City must appropriate for the Police Force.
· The provisions of HB 495 instituting and governing the State takeover apply to a class of one political subdivision—the City of St. Louis. 57. Article III, Section 40(21) of the Missouri Constitution prohibits the passing of any local or special law…
Weiss Honored By MFFH
Missouri Foundation for Health (MFH) recently recognized four “Leaders to Watch” with a $25,000 award to each for their promising contributions to health and well-being across the state. Among the leaders was Liza Weiss, Founder and Executive Director, Missouri Appleseed which has been active advocating for criminal justice reform in Jefferson City.
