MOScout Daily Update: Referendum Group Sues Hoskins - Clark Enters Senate 4 Scrum - Thelemaque Takes Reins of Lobbyist Group and more…

Quick Friday update…

First in MOScout: Another Redistricting Lawsuit

The latest lawsuit in the redistricting battle isn’t about the legislation, but rather Secretary of State Denny Hoskins’ slow-walk to allow the referendum process to get started.  See the lawsuit here.

The plaintiffs, People Not Politicians, are organizing to collect signatures for a referendum.  They have to turn in signatures before the redistricting legislation goes into effect.  That creates a 90-day clock.  Hoskins says he has to wait for Governor Mike Kehoe to sign the bill, which he hasn’t yet.

From the lawsuit: Plaintiffs seek an injunction barring Defendant from rejecting Plaintiffs’ referendum sample sheets on the basis that the Governor has not signed House Bill 1.

·       Their lawyer is… of course… Chuck Hatfield.

Meanwhile

MOIndy reports on the competing claims about the new map, and the brewing legal battles there.  Hatfield is the attorney of one of those suits as well.

Breaking… Clark in Senate 4

It looks like we’ll be getting a fourth candidate in Senate 4.  Attorney Chris Clark formed a candidate committee yesterday.  See the filing here.

He would be joining Reps. LaKeySha Bosley and Steve Butz, and former Rep. Gina Mitten.  The current incumbent, Sen. Karla May, is termed-limited.

Clark is an attorney with Thompson Coburn.  From his bio: Before joining Thompson Coburn, he served as a judicial law clerk for Hon. M. Douglas Harpool in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri. He also served as assistant circuit attorney in the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office, where he represented Missouri in prosecutions for crimes ranging from misdemeanors to homicides. His work has provided significant courtroom and analytical experience, spanning an array of legal issues.
