MOScout Daily Update: A5 Targets Seniors in Latest Ads - Butz Pivots to Guns - Ozzie for Spicer - Panic $$$ Into Senate 18? and more…
A5 Ads Target Seniors
Two new ads from Missouri Promise are targeting an older demographic to convince them that Amendment 5 would be in their best interests. One talking point of opponents is that A5 is a bad deal for seniors since their social security income is already exempt from the state income tax.
· Grandma’s Purse: Grandmas have big purses for all the pictures and maybe some candy. But every year the politicians can't keep their hands off my purse. Taxing the car and the home I already paid for. I watch the news and wonder where all our money goes. Amendment five will cut our taxes and make politicians live on a budget just like me. So what's in here goes to my grandkids, not my government.
· The same actress playing the grandma is in the second ad, “Piggy Bank”: Every year, politicians waste our money. And every year, they treat my piggy bank like hogs in a trough, taxing my car and my home I already paid for. Amendment five forces politicians to live on a budget just like me, and makes them cut our taxes whether they like it or not. Amendment five gets politicians’ greedy snouts out of my piggy bank so my money stops going to waste and starts spoiling my grandkids.
Senate 4: Butz on Gun Violence
Rep. Steve Butz speaks about the death of his sister in his latest ad, “Teresa”: Growing up with 10 siblings was definitely a little crazy at times, but we've always been very close. So, when our sister was murdered, it was shocking. It tore a hole in our family. Senseless violence in our community, including the school shooting at CVPA, drives me to protect other families from going through what ours experienced. That's why I've pushed so hard to keep guns out of dangerous hands, including abusers, those having a mental health crisis, and violent offenders…

Senate 6: Ozzie for Spicer
Sen. David Gregory and Cardinals legend Ozzie Smith teamed up for a video testimonial for Derrick Spicer, running in the Senate 6 Republican primary.
Smith: A man of integrity. He’s classy, and he’s for the people.
Senate 10: Deering Hit, Wrong District
One MOScouter sent in this hit from Mike Deering’s PAC reminding voters of Rep. Tricia Byrnes “test call” scandal. But it went to a voter in Senate 8, not Senate 10…
Senate 18: $200K to Lewis PAC
In the last week, we’ve seen $100,000 from Rex Sinquefield and $100,000 from Herzog Contracting come into Rep. Ed Lewis’ Rural Missouri Values PAC. It looks like a bit of a panic, and leads me to think that maybe Dusty Blue is polling well in Senate 18.
· Sinquefield and Herzog are both supporters of the school choice agenda.
Senate 28: Pollitt and Alexander Trade Blows
Rep. Brad Pollitt’s PAC says Sam Alexander didn’t pay his taxes…
Alexander replied that Pollitt is lying….
While there’s a third candidate, Chuck Lentz, he doesn’t seem to be a factor.
Oil Rises Again
The price of oil is rising again in response to the resumed hostilities with Iran, dashing hopes for Republicans of relief with the mid-terms steadily approaching…
New PACs
Rebuilding Missouri PAC was formed. It’s in support of Tracey Steele. He’s the Democratic candidate in House 12, a top target. Republican incumbent, Mike Jones, is running for Senate 34. See the filing here.
