Money Watch

MOIndy on Tilley PACs – Missouri Independent writes about the so-called “Tilley PACs,” political action committees related to lobbyist Steven Tilley and funded by his firms’ clients.  Read it here. They gave $120K to Lincoln Hough’s PAC yesterday.

$345K to Eigel – Sen. Bill Eigel’s PAC received $100K from Joan Langenberg, and $225K from various trial attorneys to score one of the biggest hauls of his campaign.

Republican governor large contributions so far this quarter…

·       American Dream (pro- Kehoe): $2,814,398

·       BILL PAC (pro-Eigel): $455,000

·       Committee for Liberty (pro-Ashcroft): $186,721

And… Team Kehoe has a monster fundraiser on tap tonight at Hunter Farms with Governor Mike Parson slated as a special guest.

Scharf Slams DESE, Promises Investigation

At last night’s attorney general forum Republican Will Scharf slammed DESE and promised to investigate the department if elected…

·       Our state department of education, DESE, currently has a budget of over $10 billion. It has over 1,800 employees. Neither of those numbers has ever been higher before. And yet our schools are comprehensively failing to education our students.

·       I think we need an education system that focuses on parental rights, that focuses on student achievement, and doesn’t focus on the woke garbage that we’re seeing come out of government in Jefferson City…

·       So what will I do as attorney general?  First of all, I think we need to investigate DESE.  I think we need to understand how this completely unaccountable bureaucracy is so comprehensively failing our students and our families all over the state.  And why it’s done so for so long.

·       I think we have a real problem with government accountability in Jefferson City.  Folks whose names have never appears on a ballot, deep state bureaucrats you can call them, a lot of my supporters would, run this state in a way that has left out core governmental functions, like education, essentially – how should I phrase this – parents today don’t control their education of their children. And that’s wrong.

·       Under we break the Jefferson City dynamic we’re just going to getting more of the same…

The Coming Senate Floor Race

One MOScouter calls the Senate floor leader race the “only interesting leadership race,” and gives a quick sketch of its contours….

·       Sen. Jason Bean is the only publicly announced candidate.

·       Sens. Tony Luetkemeyer and Travis Fitzwater are both telling senators that they are running.

·       Sen. Curtis Trent used to say that he wasn’t interested. He now says that he’s not ruling it out.

It’s very fluid right now.  Republicans hold 24 seats, but vote counting and coalition building is full of moving pieces: 9 Republicans have competitive primaries and 2 more may not return if they win their statewide contests.

·       Bottomline: “This race won’t really start until August 7th.”

eMailbag on Hawley

Josh Hawley has moved away from being a culture warrior and Donald Trump sycophant, jockeying to be Vice President or a Supreme Court Justice, to "fighting for the people" on radioactive waste, social media, corrupt corporations, etc.  I think he has seen something in the polling months ago and in the Kunce campaign that has him worried.
