MCN In Against Clay
Post-Dispatch reports that Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal will challenge Congressman Lacy Clay. See it here.
Pull Quote: In an interview Wednesday, Chappelle-Nadal said she believed she could topple the eight-term incumbent. She said she would stress fighting the educational and economic challenges of the 1st Congressional District, and what she said was the federal government’s failure to resolve the underground landfill fire near a nuclear waste dump in Bridgeton.
Incumbents are very hard to beat, but Chappelle-Nadal has nothing to lose by running…
Yesterday in DC
From Politico… AROUND THE HILL: Sens. Roy Blunt (R-Mo) and Chris Coons (D-Dele.) are hosting a community policing briefing highlighting Kansas City as the gold standard (Here’s why: http://bit.ly/1GSAqA4).
Mayor Sly James and Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters-Baker were part of the briefing as well.
Moves
According to the Missouri Accountability Portal, Jeff Gettys has left the Office of the Governor (Asst Director for Operations) and is now at Economic Development. Gettys was part of a news story four years ago when his salary was being paid by DED while he traveled with the governor. See it here.
Med Marijuana IPs Coming Back
The medical marijuana supporters will refile their initiative petitions later this week. They will be very similar to earlier versions, just with a few tweaks. But they may not be the last set they file…
MU Drama!
Post-Dispatch reports that “Ongoing turmoil at the University of Missouri-Columbia over its affiliation with Planned Parenthood, the racial climate on campus and how the university treats its graduate instructors has led to speculation over how long Chancellor R. Bowen Loftin will keep his job. The intrigue grew when the University of Missouri Board of Curators held an unexpected closed-door meeting on Wednesday to discuss “personnel matters,” without any additional elaboration….” See it here.
ABC17’s report (see it here) features Sen. Jamilah Nasheed supporting Loftin.
eMailbag on Bridgeton Radioactive Fire
It's amazing that Attorney General Koster and Senator Chapppelle-Nadal would use this situation to create hysteria and fear and possibly damage the property values of St Louis
County citizens homes and destroy small businesses in the Bridgeton area. Koster effectively yelled FIRE in a crowded theatre and Chappelle-Nadal pulled all the fire alarms… STOP the nonsense and let's go get the problem solved, nobody wants 20-30 years of trucks hauling radioactive materials across St Louis and St Charles Counties and the rest of the state IF they get federal funding! TELL the EPA to make Republic, the landfill owner, to pay all expanses to cap it and let's monitor and move on…
eMailbag on Carpenters (CHIPP) Contributions
Looks like the unions are taking care of the people who voted against RTW. On the flip side--- crickets for those who supported RTW, only claims of being punitive against those who didn't. Where is the support for those in the senate who carried the bill and voted for the previous question?
