McClung to Blunt
According to LinkedIn, Caroline McClung, formerly legislative assistant to Rep. Holly Rehder, is now a field representative with Senator Roy Blunt’s office.
Curtis to Ferguson
On Twitter Rep. Courtney Curtis announced that he’s moving from Berkeley to Ferguson… “It’s official! I’m a resident of #Ferguson again. You can only have so much of an effect from the outside, change must come from within.”
Cunningham, Jones Challenge Others to Give $$$ to Stream
On Twitter former state senator Jane Cunningham calls out fellow Republicans to help Rep. Rick Stream’s final fundraising push. @JCunninghamMO: As host on 97.1 last night @SpeakerTimJones challenged state candidates with big campaign accounts to step up to the plate for Rick Stream…. @Eric_Schmitt @DaveSchatz111 @KurtUSchaefer @HanawayForGov where are you? How do you ignore the value 4 yourself having an R as County Exec?
Polling in 19th Circuit
Tipster: I got an automated polling call from 20/20 Insights last night regarding the 19th Judicial Circuit. It was curious for a couple of reasons. The first is they asked that I hand off the phone to the youngest voting member in my household… The second was that it certainly sounded like they were testing messaging regarding national money playing in a local judge race… This whole race stinks and will undoubtedly be cited as a reason for the 19th to adopt the Non-Partisan Court Plan.
Polling in Diehl District
Tipster: (The anti-gun organization) Everytown has been polling in the Rep. John Diehl district.
Akin Tuesdays
Former congressman Todd Akin will be teaching tonight, and the next five Tuesday nights, at the Pillar Foundation. See it here. His topic is “Monumental Pilgrim Principles.”
Jami Arrested
Post-Dispatch reports that Sen. Jamilah Nasheed was arrested in Ferguson last night. Read it here.
Pull Quote: Attorney Eric Vickers said later Monday that he represents Nasheed and that she refused bond. He also seemed to confirm that her arrest was intentional. "She wants to present this as an alternative to any sort of violent action," Vickers said, referring to the potential for violence if a grand jury fails to indict the Ferguson police officer accused of killing Michael Brown in August.
Peek Ahead at Revenue
Things can changes dramatically, but in the first twenty days of the month the state revenues are up 12% for this month, pushing the year-to-date numbers to up 4.8%.
Carpenter’s Last Days
St. Louis City Committeewoman Marie Ceselski, who works in the Recorder of Deeds office, dishes on resigned Recorder Sharon Carpenter’s final days in the office. See it here. “Peggy Tries Meeker, her Chief Deputy, had bragged to employees, including myself, for at least eleven years, that Carpenter would always take care of her… In the event Carpenter died in office, Meeker believed arrangements were in place for her to become Recorder or remain as Chief Deputy.”
IBEW Against MCN
Organized labor is upset with Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal for her stance against Steve Stenger. See it here. “[W]hen a labor-backed candidate (Senator Maria Chappelle-Nadal) viciously and falsely denounces two great pro-labor candidates like Steve Stenger and Bob McCulloch, and instead endorses an anti-union, anti-working class candidate like Rick Stream, I feel there is no way as Business Manager of IBEW Local 1 that she will receive my support.”
Mystery Nixon
Governor Jay Nixon tossed a couple of mysteries into the air yesterday. First, a meeting with Mayor Francis Slay about an undisclosed topic. See the Post-Dispatch reporting here.
Second his office put out a press advisory that he would be “announce a new effort to address issues raised by events in Ferguson.” So, we’ll see….
eMailbag on Senate 22 Poll
“Printing the Axiom Strategy polling in your Sunday morning report is a great substitute for the Sunday comic strips but the numbers are just as laughable. Week after week we've seen one silly, easily-dismissed poll after another but the numbers the Roe team came up with in Jefferson County are the silliest yet. House Democrats are dumping tons of money into the 112th and 113th yet Roe shows both their candidates 12 points down. I'm pretty sure the House Dems polled there before they got their checkbooks out. And, Roorda down 3 points to Wieland?! Who believes that?...”
