Dempsey to Nominate Crouse for Secretary

Pro Tem Tom Dempsey announced his intent to replace retiring Terry Spieler as the Secretary of the Senate…

Fellow Senators,

After careful consideration, it is my intent to put forward Adriane Crouse’s name as the nominee for the next Secretary of the Senate during caucus on November 6. Adriane has been a valued member of the Senate Research team for years, and she will continue to serve the Senate well in this new position. If you would like to discuss the matter further, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Jami’s Got A Gun

When Sen. Jamilah Nasheed was arrested last night, she was packing heat… Read it here.

Pull Quote: Nasheed declined comment about the having the weapon, but did tell News 4 she has a concealed carry permit. A Ferguson police officer said Nasheed was carrying a fully-loaded 9 mm handgun and additional rounds of ammunition.  ources also told News 4 Ferguson police requested St. Ann to administer a breathalyzer test at the time of her arrest because she "smelled strongly of intoxicants," but Nasheed refused to do so. Nasheed said Tuesday she was not intoxicated at the time.

Prepping for the Non-Indictment

Today, the Post-Dispatch ran a front-page account of the Michael Brown tragedy from the perspective of Officer Darren WilsonRead it here.

Yesterday Governor Jay Nixon announced the creation of a Ferguson Commission which will later issue specific recommendations.  See the announcement here.  This is in addition to his previous creation of the Office of Community Engagement just a week or so ago.  See that announcement here.

The conventional wisdom is that there’s a coordinated effort to soften the blow of the expected non-indictment of Wilson to prevent an outburst of rioting from the disenfranchised.  I’ll be surprised if a Ferguson Commission and an Office of Community Engagement can accomplish that.

The Question: Does the indictment/non-indictment comes down in the next week?  Before Election Day?

Green Contra Ameren

AP reports that Judge Dan Green will rule against Ameren in a case involving whether the Public Service Commission can regulate a proposed 100-mile power line. Read it here.

Pull Quote: Cole County Circuit Judge Dan Green said he’s inclined to reject Ameren’s request for a declaration that the Missouri Public Service Commission has no authority over the power line. Green said he hopes to formally issue the ruling later this week.  Ameren Transmission Co. of Illinois wants to build a roughly 100-mile power line across northeast Missouri as part of a 480-mile transmission route from Ottumwa, Iowa, to western Indiana. Some landowners oppose the power line and received Green’s approval earlier Monday to join the legal fight.

St. Louis City Committeewoman Marie Ceselski contends in her latest blog post that if City Hall were to charge the former Recorder of Deeds for her uses of City space to store her campaign materials over the years, it would amount to over $100K.  Read it here.

19th Circuit Judicial race descends into a mudfest during these final days via tipster… “Just got another push poll… Asked if I would support (Incumbent Judge) Joyce still if I knew she let sex offenders near a school. Real classy….”

Giants took the first game from the Royals last night… Game 2 tonight.
