MOScout Daily Update: Lots of New Ads - State Dashboard Still Broken - McCloskey Watch and more....

Parade of Ads

Three weeks until Election Day… lots of new ads rolling out….

CLEAN

·         The second ad from CLEAN, fighting Amendment 3 was posted on Facebook yesterday.  See it here.  It tells viewers not to get fooled by the “wrapping paper” of A3, but to understand that inside it’s really a gift to politicians allowing “insiders” to draw maps to “protect” themselves.  Without a peep yet from supporters, A3 looks like it’s in trouble.

Governor

·         Auditor Nicole Galloway’s new ad “Seriously” hits Governor Mike Parson on healthcare.  Her three attacks: 100,000 kids cut, rural hospitals closing, he opposes pre-existing coverage protection.  See it here.

·         Dem third party, A Stronger Missouri, released “Wrong Way.” See it here.  It echoes the theme of the new Galloway ad taking up the topic of healthcare, repeating claims about kids getting cut and pre-existing conditions.

·         Meanwhile the pro-Parson PAC Uniting Missouri released “Our Values.”  See it here.  It opens with a dark screen hitting Galloway for supporting late-term abortions and too liberal on gun issues, saying she’s “F-rated” by the NRA.  The scene then turns sunny and shows Parson smiling while touting his pro-life, pro-gun credentials.

AG

·         Attorney General Eric Schmitt’s second ad echoes the theme of his first ad. It lists his accomplishments and uses the same tag-line: “Eric Schmitt, Missouri’s tough-on-crime, law-and-order attorney general.” See “Endorsed” here.  It’s unclear that his Democratic opponent Rich Finneran will have enough money to do statewide TV.

SOS

·         Democrat Yinka Faleti released his first ad.  See “Only As Strong” here.  It starts as a bio and then hits Ashcroft for making it “harder to vote.”  It’s a lot to fit into 30-seconds, but with limited resources, it’s what he has to do.

CD-2

·         Two new pro-Jill Schupp ads.  One from the candidate, “The Only Choice” (see it here) featured a mom speaking to the camera about healthcare.  The other from the DCCC is an attack on Congresswoman Ann Wagner.  See “Blend” here.  It says she’s taken money from drug companies and voted against lower drug prices

Senate 15

·         In Sen. Andrew Koenig’s new ad features his wife, Brooke Koenig.  She talks about her childhood and says Koenig will help keep families safe.  See it here.

Senate 17

·         Sen. Lauren Arthur’s first commercial had her talking to school kids via Zoom.  See “Zoom” here.  It cites her accomplishments and ends with a student telling her, “Mrs. Arthur, you’re on mute.”

State COVID Dashboard Still Broken

DHSS tweets that they’re continuing to work on the state’s broken COVID data dashboard they proudly rolled out last month.  It’s been inoperable since Saturday.

While some have bemoaned the lack of data as “flying blind” in the pandemic, I’m not sure it really matters.

The administration is on auto-pilot with regard to the coronavirus.

It’s clear that any meaningful top-down policies are non-starters.  They are 100% in a rope-a-dope strategy: cover up, take the punches, hope you don’t get knocked out.  It’s on the local health departments to each do their own thing, while waiting it out until vaccines arrive.

So I’m not sure the lack of data has any practical impact.

McCloskeys Relish Fame

KMOV reports that Mark and Pat McCloskey are savoring every second of their fifteen minutes of fame, leaving autographed photos after dining at the Original Pancake House.

·         Diner: “It seemed like to me they didn't want to be forgotten or they didn't get recognized as much as they wanted to when they were there”

Geurink Joins Galloway

Politico Huddle reports that “Jenni Geurink is taking leave from the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs to join Nicole Galloway’s campaign for governor of Missouri.”
