MOScout Daily Update: Primary Book III - Phase 2 Announced - No Ham Breakfast!?! - Virtual Dem Convention Kicks Off and more...
MOScout Primary Book III: GOP House Primaries
Here’s the final installment of my August primary preview: a look at every contested Republican primary in the House. Find it here.
Once more, there are some holes, but for each race, it contains photos of candidates, a brief biography, links to their Facebook or campaign websites and their current fundraising numbers. As well as an early MOScout forecast of who will win.
Enjoy! And please send me any goofs or corrections you find as I will likely update it.
June 16: BIB Day
Coming soon… Back in Business Day for Missouri. Governor Mike Parson said yesterday that Reopening Phase 2 was pretty simple: no more restrictions from the state.
That will officially happen on June 16. Parson is leaving the state of emergency in place to facilitate the flowing of federal resources, and also keeping his deregulatory actions active as well.
But there will be no more statewide guidance on social distancing or occupancy limitations.
Local jurisdictions can continue to implement their own restrictions.
And
The state fair will proceed but…. Without the ham breakfast! As one lobbyist texted: “[Then] what’s the point?”
Two New IE PACs
Two new PACs were formed. One to advance the candidacy of St. Louis Prosecutor Kim Gardner and another to opposed Mike Parson. PACs aren’t subject to the campaign contributions. So many candidates have established PACs in addition to their candidate committees. But the PACs can not be controlled by the candidates. Their expenditures must be independent from the candidate’s campaign.
· Missouri Justice & Public Safety PAC was formed in support of Gardner’s re-election. The treasurer is Velta Smith. See the paperwork here.
· A Stronger Missouri was formed to oppose Parson’s re-election campaign. The treasurer is Linda Locke. See the paperwork here.
Springfield School District Joins Vaping Lawsuit
Springfield News Leader reports that the “Springfield Public Schools is the latest in a string of a districts suing Juul Labs Inc., a high profile manufacturer of e-cigarettes… The school board voted Tuesday to join the federal lawsuit. The vote was taken behind closed doors, which is permitted because it involved legal action. It claims, among other things, that the company marketed its products to teenagers — including flavored products — and got a new generation of young people addicted to nicotine….”
