Special Session Intermission
The House is scheduled to take next week off and return the following week, Monday August 24.
· This special session will be one folks will cite in the future as an example of how things can go off the rails. It illustrates the importance of the second floor communicating with legislative leaders to plot out a concrete plan before issuing a call.
· But, the governor’s allies aren’t bothered by the month-long special session. It’s a shoulder shrug. We’re in campaign mode and they don’t mind if the crime special session meanders on for another month.
Driving the Day: Galloway’s School Return Plan
The press advisory: State Auditor Nicole Galloway will host a press conference in Joplin, where she will discuss her vision for Missouri, the importance of expanding Medicaid, and what she would do as governor to address COVID-19 and ensure that schools can reopen and Missouri’s economy can fully recover.
Credentialed members of the media are invited to participate in person. Masks and social distancing will be required…

Axios reminds us this morning that although there are rare fatalities among children from the coronavirus, they’re not immune. All they don’t all have mild cases. Some get very sick and are hospitalized from the virus. Read it here.
