MOScout Daily Update: Galloway Has Another Big $$ Day - New Pro-Parson Ad - Senate Perfects Special Bill - Axiom Caucus? - Second Special? and more...

Galloway Hauls In Another $100K

The Galloway campaign saw a surge of donations on Wednesday, the day after the primary. $113,000 was raised – over 1,500 donations – in just twenty-four hours.

It’s another example of how Nicole Galloway’s candidate committee has been outraising Governor Mike Parson’s candidate committee.

Team Galloway “has built a grassroots, online donor community that complements more traditional giving and is allowing them to raise the resources to stay competitive with Parson.”

Still, Parson’s PAC is powering his financial advantage…

New Uniting Missouri Ad

Uniting Missouri, the pro-Mike Parson PAC, unveiled a new ad.  See it here. It’s an attack ad on Nicole Galloway, saying that she’s being “bankrolled by the liberal mob,” and that she “supports Joe Biden’s liberal agenda.”  The tag: “Wrong on crime. Wrong on jobs. Wrong for Missouri families.”

Team Parson continues to elevate the issue of crime.  It’s unclear if voters are as concerned about crime as they are about COVID and the economy.

Senate Struggles But Perfects SB1

SB 1, the governor’s legislative package to address violent crime, floundered for hours in Senate debate.  Sens. Karla May and Jamilah Nasheed led the Democratic filibuster that had rolled with tides of emotion across the evening and into the night.  A compromise was finally perfected around 10PM.  See the final substitute here.

Rumorville: Let’s Do This Again Soon

One rumor making the rounds is that second floor is considering a second special session for the end of August.  That one would address COVID liability for businesses.  Parson has mentioned the topic before during his press briefings.

The Axiom Caucus?

In 2018, Axiom Strategies focused efforts on getting involved in Missouri House races.  They quickly became a powerhouse consultant for Missouri House races.  At last count, there were 54 clients of Axiom Strategies in the Missouri House. More on STL Mayoral Race

One reader reminded me that St. Louis City will vote on “approval voting” in November.  If it passes, it would rearrange the process for electing mayor.  And it will be helpful to Tishuara Jones’ prospects because the likely crowded field wouldn’t splinter and protect the incumbent.  There are three components to the proposal.

First, it would make St. Louis’ municipal elections non-partisan.  That, in itself, is not a meaningful change.

Second, it would implement approval voting, which means you may vote for as many candidates as you wish.  If you like three candidates running for mayor, you may vote for all three, or only one if you wish.

Finally, the top two-vote getters would have a run-off the following month – instead of the perfunctory “general election” which now occurs.

So You Know

According to Wikipedia, approval voting was used “for papal conclaves between 1294 and 1621.”
