Hannegan Passes
From the Post-Dispatch…
Rep. Tom Hannegan, a Republican, suffered a stroke Wednesday morning and died at about noon, said Scott Mell, his life partner, campaign manager and campaign treasurer. Hannegan, 51, was elected to his first two-year term in November 2016, representing the 65th House District encompassing the northern part of the county.
In addition to his legislative duties, Hannegan served as publisher and editor-in-chief of StreetScape Magazine. He also was a broker for STL Buy & Sell Realtors of St. Peters…
As a member of the Republican majority, Hannegan championed legislation that would pave the way for the release of older, nonviolent inmates. Hannegan also was among a small number of openly gay lawmakers in the Legislature’s lower chamber.
Hartzler on the Air
Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler released the first campaign ad of the US Senate race. While others have done web videos or digital ads, this is the first TV ad. See it here.
The campaign said it’s a “5-figure” buy across most major media markets in the state, aimed at Republican primary voters.
It focuses on China, but ends with a zinger aimed at Eric Greitens: “when I need to see a hairdresser, I make an appointment.” Some felt it felt flippant (“there is nothing remotely lighthearted about sexual assault”), while others thought it was an instant classic (“that's the kind of line folks could be remembering years from now.”)
Reaction from Across the Spectrum
· Might be the first Republican US Senate candidate in the country that did not mention Trump, feature his image or specifically support his America First agenda in their first TV ad.
· No one cares about the Chinese farms. Went after Kurt Schaefer- didn’t work. Stephen Webber tried too…
Governor to Help With FIFA Pitch
From Governor’s public schedule for today… Governor Parson will travel to Kansas City to welcome a Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) delegation to Missouri to discuss Kansas City as a host city for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Governor Parson will then return to Jefferson City to join the Missouri Department of Agriculture and Missouri Pork Association in presenting a proclamation celebrating October as Pork Month in Missouri….
Burlison Straw to Gold?
One reader thinks that we may see the money in Sen. Eric Burlison’s state candidate committee “converted” and ending up in a federal SuperPAC supporting his congressional run.
I’m told that this type of maneuver has been done before by other candidates. The key is that the SuperPAC must be independent.
If such a conversion is accomplished, it would add a nice boost to Burlison’s firepower. On his October report, there was $428,653 in his state candidate committee.
And
Perhaps Eric Greitens would try this too in the US Senate race. There’s $192,546 in his state candidate account leftover from his gubernatorial days.
Gov’s PAC Defends Security Lapse
Without a single Republican willing to defend the governor’s bizarre attack on the journalist who told the state about the vulnerable social security numbers on the state’s website, his PAC is stepping up to the plate with a web video. See it here.
It says the Post-Dispatch is “fake news” and “shameful.”
Meanwhile
Missouri Independent quotes Rep. Peter Merideth trying to make sense of the $50 million figure the governor used at his press conference calling for the prosecution of the journalist.
“He pulled it straight out of his ass,” Merideth said in an interview with The Independent…
