MOScout Weekender: Republicans Polled on 2022, Trump and more - More Barklage Talk - Rizzo Hummel Football Feud - WWTW and more...
More on Barklage
I heard from folks about their interpretation of the sentence received by political consultant David Barklage…
· I would bet that he provided substantial assistance that will lead to more indictments. [Assistant US Attorney] Hal Goldsmith doesn’t do tax cases, and he certainly doesn’t spend years on a cut and dried tax case so that he can acquiesce to the defendant’s request for probation without getting something in return.
· If David Barklage has a major flaw, it is that he is extremely loyal to his friends. I’m not saying he did, but if he did talk to the Feds about anything, it should be his enemies that are worried.

MOScout’s Hallway Index: US Senate
I checked in with lobbyists about how they saw as the favorite in the US Senate race now that Dave Schatz has entered. Greitens is still the pick for most lobbyists, but there’s no consensus. In parenthesis are the results when I asked the same question back in August, to see how sentiment has evolved. 24 replies…

Sample of Comments
· Greitens. Because he is what today’s Missouri voters deserve.
· If Greitens locks down suburban moms, he wins absent Trump endorsing someone not named Greitens.
· I still say Schmitt...for a couple reasons. One of the nicer and more legit reasons is because when I talk to random (non politico) people throughout the state Schmitt's name comes up a lot. Not always for good reasons and not always for bad, but I have to imagine that type of widespread name ID has an upside…
· Schatz definitely has a path, but I don't think he is disciplined enough to really take advantage of it so I think Greitens will be pick.
· Greitens has been the favorite from day one.
· Schatz in helps Greitens.
· If [Schatz] self funds the most money, he will have a chance. Count him out at your own risk…
Who Won the Week?
Rudi Keller – Have you ever seen a reporter get under a governor’s skin like this? He just keeps breaking stories and giving Parson fits. It’s becoming almost a spectator sport now, waiting for Parson’s next outburst.
MO Republicans – No MO Republicans defended Parson’s attack on the Post reporter who withheld publishing to warn state officials of their web security problem. They all just stuck their hands in their pockets, and walked away whistling while the governor ranted. That decision looks even smarter as more information emerges about how disingenuous the governor’s blame game actually was.
David Barklage – One word: Probation.
Sara Walsh – Benefits from the exits of potentially tough candidates Kurt Schaefer and Caleb Rowden in CD-4, and then BOOM, posts a picture of herself with Donald Trump.
SAPA defenders – Greitens is one of the least popular people in Jefferson City. His attack on SAPA may help rally defenders of the law and harden resistance to modifying it.
Eric Schmitt – His office’s lawsuit blizzard shows no sign of slowing down. If Republican primary voters want a fighter, he’s showing them he can be one.
