MOScout’s Hallway Index: JeffCO Senate

I asked if there was a frontrunner in the Jefferson County state senate race.  No clear leader, but it looks like lobbyists tend to favor those in the building (Coleman and Shaul), than those outside (Roorda and Waller).  18 replies…

2. Mary Elizabeth Coleman… 44%

3. Jeff Roorda… 6%

4. Ken Waller…6%

5. Someone else… 11%

Sample of Comments

·         Shaul most closely resembles the district.

·         MEC. You have the new face of the pro life movement, a Dem, the architect of a moderate congressional map, and an unknown. The GOP primary voters I talk to have one obvious choice.

·         1 female in a crowded field has the advantage.

·         Who the hell knows….

Who Won the Week?

House leadership - In two and half weeks, facing head winds from US Senate candidates, the Senate’s Conservative Caucus and Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft, House leadership put their heads down and passed the congressional map.

MO Dem legislators – As the 7-1 vs 6-2 fight gets ugly, Dems grab the popcorn and cozy seat to watch Republicans devolve into name calling: RINO this, RINO that.

Brian Gelner – Running for state senate, the political newcomer taps into his business contacts to produce a $250K fundraising haul. All the contributions were from “real world” folks.  I don’t think there was a MOScout reader on the report.  I don’t remember that ever happening.

Mike Kehoe – Already running hard for governor in 2024.  His hard works shows as he puts together another solid quarter.

Organized labor – Look at the top cash stashes in Missouri PACs, and it’s clear that unions remain a potent political force in Missouri.  Carpenters ($2.1M COH), Laborers ($1.2M COH), MONEA ($660K COH)…

Rural Missouri – Outstate Missouri gets a lot of attention in the governor’s budget: $400 million for broadband, $100 million for “low-volume” roads.
