MOScout Daily Update: Ashcroft No on A3 - New Hruza Ad - New Schmitt Ad - Police Against Page Ad - Prepping for the Next Epidemic and more...

Ashcroft Will Vote No on 3

Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft told KSDK’s Mark Maxwell he’ll be voting No on the marijuana legalization question.  See it here (about 1:50 mark).

·       I don’t think that this amendment is good for the state.  It’s way too much to put into our constitution.  If you think that marijuana should be decriminalized under state law, the amendment should say something to the effect of ‘the recreational use of marijuana in the state of Missouri is not unconstitutional and may be regulated by general statute.’

·       My understanding is… there are at least serious allegations that the people behind this amendment wrote this amendment as a way to enrich themselves and they put a lot of money to stopping any sort of statutory reform… [The allegations are] credible, doesn’t mean they’re true.

New Hruza Ad

In Senate 24, George Hruza’s latest ad calls Rep. Tracy McCreery a “typical career politician,” and says McCreery “asked George Hruza for campaign contributions multiple times yet incredibly she now attacks him in false ads.”

The ad pivots to Hruza as “the one with the record of getting good things done.”

See the ad here.

New Schmitt Ad

Attorney General Eric Schmitt’s latest ad calls focuses on crime. It places Trudy Valentine in league with other “big city liberals” like Congresswoman Cori Bush trying to “defund the police.”  In contrast it says that Schmitt is “tough on crime.”

See the ad here.

Police on Page Ad

Meanwhile the St. Louis County Police are calling a Sam Page ad misleading.  See the ad here. (It’s a pretty good ad).

·       In a recently aired campaign commercial, County Executive Sam Page touts his alleged accomplishments during his tenure as County Executive in his bid for re-election. One such “accomplishment” following the question “What has Same Page Done” makes a claim of “three Medal of Valor Awards.” This misleading claim is stated without any context and has been interpreted by many that Sam Page himself has earned these awards.

·       This claim insinuating Sam Page has somehow ‘accomplished’ these awards is either a complete and utter lie or a total failure on his campaign to clearly articulate this alleged ‘accomplishment.’

·       The St. Louis County Police Association is demanding Page’s campaign cease airing of this misleading commercial until proof of such award is shown or an explanation of the complete and embarrassing failure of his campaign to communicate clearly has been explained.

Paper trail of AG Appt

In Kurt Erickson’s article this morning looking at who might nab an appointment to be the attorney general – assuming Eric Schmitt wins his race – he notes there may be some internal discussion about Andrew Bailey getting the job.

In response to a Sunshine Law request filed by the Post-Dispatch, the governor’s administration acknowledged there were at least 47 emails, phone texts or other memos that could indicate whether any such discussions have occurred.
