Another Treasurer Name in Mix?

Governor Mike Parson’s public schedule for the week doesn’t have an announcement for his state treasurer appointment – yet.

One tipster says there’s a new name making the rounds as getting some consideration… Leslie Korte.  She’s currently general counsel in the Treasurer’s Office.

MOScout’s Hallway Index: Passing Hard Stuff

I asked lobbyists, “Which of the following has the best chance of passing next session?” 23 responses…

RESULTS

1. Initiative petition reform… 34.8%

2. Open enrollment… 17.4%

3. Sports betting…  34.8%

4. State takeover of STL Police… 13%

Sample of Comments

·       Leadership in both Chambers have made Open Enrollment a priority.

·       Initiative petition reform. The issue is front and center for both chambers and leadership. Sports betting is the no brainer but the appetite is not there to get something done.

·       I’d parlay Sports betting and IP reform in a bet if anybody would take it. +285

·       Gotta be sports betting. Undoubtedly will be tied to keeping the Chiefs in Missouri and there’s no way the state allows them leave for Kansas.

·       Sports betting passes after a lot of twists and turns because Plocher and Rowden force the casinos to negotiate with Hoskins/VLTs.

·       IP reform.

Who Won the Week?

Mike Parson – Governor’s schedule says he’s continuing to meet “with his staff and Administration officials to discuss proposals for the upcoming 2023 Legislative Session.” In fact, he’s got the beautiful advantage of an overflowing state bank account.  As he considers what to propose in his State of the State, he’s got a lot of options – largely unconstrained by money.

Denny Hoskins – The sponsor of SB 1 dealing with Video Lottery Machines and Sports Betting, Hoskins will be in the center ring of one of next session’s top issues.  But he’s also in his final two-years as a senator.  The clock is ticking. Probably time to make a deal.

Erika Leonard – After 17 years with Bardgett & Associates, she’s joined MARF (Missouri Association of Rehabilitation Facilities) as their new CEO.

Tony Luetkemeyer – His 30 Day After Report showed $1.2 million cash on-hand (between his candidate committee and his PAC).  That’s some serious starting line strength he would bring to an AG primary.  Will he make the leap?

Roy Blunt – The retiring US Senator gave his farewell speech in the Senate floor this week. It was a tutorial on public service.  His closing lesson: “What we do here is more important than who we are.”

eMailbag on Hayti Heights

"over 72% for Trump" — not sure the person in emailbag today has ever been to Hayti Heights... A town that's 98% Black and overwhelmingly votes for Democrats. Mayor Robinson and the people in Hayti Heights have been fighting like hell to get the money they need to drink water that doesn't kill them. Always a damn shame to see a Democrat (I'm assuming) go out of their way to dunk on a rural town they clearly know nothing about.
