MOScout Weekender: Ashcroft PAC Lands Another $400K+ - Poll Shows Wide Open Senate 22 Primary - Hallway on Session - WWTW and more...
Ashcroft PAC Grabs More Cash
Another $415,000 was reported by the pro-Jay Ashcroft Committee for Liberty PAC. This comes on the heels of $250,000 from Holland Law Firm. It shows that Team Ashcroft is coming alive in its fundraising, after being outraised the past couple of quarters by Lieutenant Governor Mike Kehoe. Both are expected to run for governor in 2024.
And in the surge in fundraising also comes after word has circulated that lobbyist Steve Tilley is now helping Ashcroft raise money. In that latest slew of checks one (for $10K) was from the Tilley-related Perryville Investments.

MOScout’s Hallway Index: Session Prognosis
I asked lobbyists for their prognosis for the remaining six weeks of the legislative session. 23 replies…
1. Things are hopelessly broken and there’s no fixing it this session… 43.5%
2. This drama will pass and we’ll have a flurry of activity at the end… 30.4%
3. Something else… 26.1%
Sample of Comments
· Mix between 1/2. Things are broken. We will see some flurry of activity. Senate will adjourn early, just don’t know how early. Schatz could get a LOT of Turkey hunting done if they adjourn before opening day 4/18. Might get a budget done, might not. If not, special session for budget and that should get wrapped up around June 30th.
· There will be a flurry of activity at the end. Legislators love to legislate.
· Some bills will pass but less than average.
· Too many campaigns and the maps aren’t done.
· We will limp across the finish line barely getting the budget done.
· Call me an optimist but I still think some things will get done
Who Won the Week?
Senate Democrats – It’s been said a hundred times this session, but I’ll say it again: the Republican infighting is the gift that keeps giving for Democrats.
Trudy Busch Valentine – A new hope for the Dems. Valentine brings the beautiful combination of resources and no voting record to the race.
Jay Ashcroft – His aligned PAC lands $665,000 at the end of the quarter in a sign that Ashcroft realizes the 2024 gubernatorial campaign has already started.
Former senators – Whether folks are hearing whispers of Jim Lembke directing the Conservative Caucus or shaking their fists at the tracts of Mike Cunningham, senators may get termed, but they’re still in the game.

eMailbag on Senate Woes
Why don’t you ever address the real problem in the Senate? One: very poor leadership the worse I have seen in years… Second: Since the Republican ultra conservatives have gained a 7 member group the Senate has been controlled by these 7 men. Since having a 7 member group of obstructionist makes a P Q impossible. Just look at the history of the past 8 years on the production of the Missouri legislature and it shows that in 2020 when these obstructionist’s took control of the Senate the problems with the Senate came to a head.
