MOScout Daily Update: New Anti-Greitens Ad - Why Greitens Will Fade - Special Session Landmines? - Fears of Ice Cream Deregulation and more...
Devastating New Anti-Greitens Ad
The latest ad from the Show Me Values PAC uses quotes from Sheena Greitens’ affidavit. It’s devastating. See it here.
Physical violence toward our children…
Cuffing our then three year old son across the face…
Yanking him around by his hair…
A swollen face, bleeding gums, and loose tooth…
He said ‘Dad had hit him’…
What It Means
The conventional wisdom in the US Senate race has been that Eric Greitens has a “floor.” It’s presumed to be the mid to low-twenties because every poll has shown him in that range despite continual negative stories about him. The idea is that there is a chunk of the Republican primary electorate that is with him regardless of what they may hear or learn about him.
In a splintered field, 25% could win the race if things break just the right way.
But one Republican tells me that this assumption is now being tested. News articles have a brief shelf life in a 24-hour news cycle world. The Show Me Values PAC will be the first sustained negative attack on Greitens. It’ll be ongoing for this final month of the campaign. And it’s obviously not pulling any punches. He thinks we’ll see a deterioration in Greitens’ numbers that haven’t previously occurred.
MOIndy on Senate Ad $$$
Missouri Independent lists how much has been spent on TV ads so far in the US Senate race.
· The biggest spender is Save Missouri Values, the PAC backing Schmitt. The PAC, which has raised $4.5 million, has spent just under $2 million on TV ads running in every market in the state. Schmitt’s campaign committee, which has raised $2.9 million, has spent $539,000 on television ads, all in the St. Louis television market…
· Team PAC, which backs former Gov. Eric Greitens, has spent $1.7 million…
· Show Me Values PAC, which opposes Greitens, has spent $1.5 million…
· Hartzler has spent $1.3 million from her campaign committee…
· Missouri Senate President Pro Tem Dave Schatz has spent $642,560 from his campaign committee...
· WinMo PAC, supporting U.S. Rep. Billy Long, spent $156,775…
Special Session Landmines
The assumption is that Governor Mike Parson’s special session will occur concurrent with Veto Session in September. That would give remodelers time to finish their work on the House chamber, and also be easiest on the lawmakers who are already prepared to come to Jefferson City then.
The special will include a call to lengthen the Ag tax credit sunsets and implement a broad-based tax cut. And the governor – like all governors – would prefer that the legislative process is pre-scripted for a drama-free, smooth passage of his proposals.
However, the Senate is, by its nature, difficult to tame. The potential for a messy special is exacerbated by the current division in the Republican Caucus between the “Regulars” and the “Conservative Caucus.”
Furthermore, one lobbyist notes that the governor line-item vetoed the funds for an airport construction in St. Charles, as well as a provision dealing with St. Charles bond issues, and wonders if this will motivate the St. Charles Conservative Caucus members (Sens. Bill Eigel and Bob Onder) to give the governor’s agenda even closer scrutiny.
The Risk of Ice Cream Deregulation?
One building denizen pointed me to this Florida news article.
The Florida ice cream maker allegedly linked to a listeria outbreak that has killed two and sickened dozens has refused to issue a recall while officials investigate, according to a report.
The Florida Department of Health is leading a probe into the outbreak linked to Big Olaf Creamery of Sarasota, Fla.– and has advised consumers not to eat the 25-year-old, family-run company’s ice cream…
[Department spokesperson Jeremy Redfern] said the FDOH does not have regulatory authority to stop the company from manufacturing and selling the ice cream…
Why It Matters
HB 2331 (see it here) signed into law by the governor repealed the requirement that Missouri producers of ice cream, mellorine, or other frozen dessert products be licensed by the Department of Health and Senior Services…

To the Republican questioning working with trial lawyers: “How can you call yourself a conservative defender of the constitution - fighting for the 2nd Amendment - while at the same time chipping away at the 7th Amendment? Does your hypocrisy have any limits?”
