Here’s are a few things that jump out to me…

·       The folks often mentioned as possible future speakers/leaders got some high-powered committees… Kurtis Gregory (Rules), Bill Hardwick (Emerging Issues), and Alex Riley (General Laws).

·       Those appropriation subcommittees are going to have a heavier hand in crafting the budget this session.

·       It’s a vote of confidence from the Speaker for freshmen to get vice-chairs… Bill Allen (Special Committee on Homeland Security), Brad Christ (Economic Development), Dane Diehl (Emerging Issues), Wendy Hausman (Children and Families), Justin Hicks (General Laws), Dave Hinman (Local Government), Ben Keathley (Utilities), Cameron Parker (Professional Registration), and Melanie Stinnett (Healthcare Reform).

Scouplette: Silvey to Shell

Ryan Silvey, recently resigned from the Public Service Commission, will be the Director of Market Development for Shell Recharge Solutions. It’s the electrification arm of Shell oil.

·       This sounds like a huge job as Shell expands its electrification footprint in anticipation of the trend of electric cars displacing gas-powered cars.

AG Watch: Garrison Making the Rounds?

On Twitter, former US Attorney Tim Garrison posted pictures from his talk in front of St. Louis County Republicans last night. “Appreciated the invitation of the @STLCountyGOP to talk about lessons learned from 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘨 #ViolentCrime, as #USAttorney effectively 𝘧𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 crime, & as a #Marine in #Afghanistan about the importance of preserving & promoting the #RuleOfLaw.”

·       Politicos are watching to see whether Garrison could jump into the 2024 Republican primary with AG Andrew Bailey and Will Scharf.  Garrison has the resume for the job, but can he raise the money for the campaign?

Team Kehoe Hits $3M

Word is that the Mike Kehoe campaign will be reporting nearly $3 million cash on-hand for the 2024 campaign for governor with over $1.3 million raised between the campaign committee and American Dream PAC in the past three months.

·       American Dream PAC: $2,340,000 COH

·       Citizens to Elect Mike Kehoe: $639,000 COH

What It Means

·       The Ashcroft committees had about $2M cash on-hand as of their last reports.  January quarter reports are optional so we might not get a good apples-to-apples comparison until April.

·       Still, these results show what we’ve been seeing the $5K+ Contributions, Kehoe is showing a methodical work ethic in his campaign.

Days Fined

Former Sen. Rita Heard Days was fined $1,000 by the Missouri Ethics Commission for failing to timely amend the Statement of Committee Organization.  See the consent order here.

Sweeney on STL Spring Elections

Attorney Dave Sweeney, who lobbies both state government and St. Louis City government, offers an overview of STL City candidates in the upcoming municipal elections this Spring.  Find it here.

·       The City Board of Aldermen is doubling the size of their wards (halving their aldermen) with this election, so it’s a particularly chaotic election with many incumbents retiring from service and several well-established political names battling anew.

Mazur to Taylor Geospatial

St. Louis Business Journal reports that Jeff Mazur, the former leader of local technology training nonprofit LaunchCode, is taking on an executive role with a new St. Louis research institute focused on geospatial technology. The Taylor Geospatial Institute (TGI), which launched in April 2022, has hired Mazur as its first director of government and industry partnerships, effective Jan. 17. Mazur’s new role involves overseeing the pursuit of research partnerships between TGI and the government and private sectors. TGI said that will include partnerships focused on joint-funded research and co-development collaborations with businesses and government agencies…”

Boeing Political Action Committee Missouri PAC was formed.  It’s a Federal PAC. Its treasurer is Randell Gelzer.
