MOScout Daily Update: Senate Bills Referred to Committee - Kunce Kick-Off Raises $350K - House Dress Code Goes National and more...

Quick Friday update…

Rowden Refers Bills

Pro Tem Caleb Rowden referred the first 91 bills to committees.  That’s up to three bills per senator that were pre-filed. (Not every senator pre-filed three bills.)  We’ll have Senate hearings on bills starting up next week.  See the hearing schedule here.

And it gives us a look at which committees will be hearing some of the session’s major issues…

·       Foreign ownership of farm land – Agriculture (Bean)

·       Sports betting – Appropriations (Hough).  That’s where they were heard last session.

·       Anti-CRT – Education (Koenig).  This will be part of some Parents Bill of Rights legislation heard on Tuesday in that committee.

·       Transgender athletes – Emerging Issues (Justin Brown).

·       Gun laws – General Laws (Bernskoetter)

·       Post-partum care – Health and Welfare (Coleman)

·       AG concurrent jurisdiction – Judiciary (Luetkemeyer)

·       IP Reform – Local Government (Gannon)

First in MOScout: Kunce’s Killer Start

Team Kunce crows about their first week fundraising totals…

Lucas Kunce’s launch haul dwarfed all previous Week 1 launch fundraising totals reported by any other campaign in Missouri history, topping $350,000 raised in a single week from 9,000 donors. Here’s how that stacks up with some of the other top Week 1 totals: Lucas Kunce | 2024 Cycle | Week 1 Raised: $350,000+

Josh Hawley | 2018 Cycle | Week 1 Raised: $40,379

Jason Kander | 2016 Cycle | Week 1 Raised: $137,040

Eric Schmitt | 2022 Cycle | Week 1 Raised: $99,500

Eric Greitens | 2016 Cycle | Week 1 Raised: $233,386 (Previous Record Holder. Note: This was a state election that preceded recently implemented contribution limits.)

House Dress Rules Goes Viral

The House debate over what to include in the dress code for female legislators jumped from Missouri media to national media… Washington Post, Newsweek, Salon, Fast Company, Yahoo.

What It Means

It’s a quick and early reminder to House leadership how easy it is to get distracted and derailed from your agenda.  It helps make the case for tight control over which amendments and bills you let to the floor.
