MOScout Daily Update: Eigel Cheers Poll Numbers - More Rex Chex - 76 Suspicious Hams - Revenues Dip and more...
Team Eigel Cheers New Poll Numbers
Sen. Bill Eigel’s campaign is sharing internal polling that shows their guy gaining some traction…
· We show Jay Ashcroft with a diminishing lead from where we had him in May which is down from where we had him in November.
· Ashcroft support very weak when message-tested. Floor for Ashcroft is 12%
· Eigel showing now in 2nd place overall statewide breaking through to double digits. Not behind Mike Kehoe…
This differs from the latest Remington/MOScout poll which still shows Eigel in third behind Kehoe.
More Rex Chex
In the last batch of big checks that were received before the September 30 deadline, Rex Sinquefield showed his support for three more legislators…
· The PACs of both Sen. Andrew Koenig and Rep. Cody Smith received $25,000 from Sinquefield. They are both running to become the next state treasurer. Meanwhile the incumbent, Vivek Malek, added another $100K to his PAC with two checks from donors. Malek continues to mine donors from outside the normal political givers.
· Sen. Tony Luetkemeyer’s Tony PAC received $25,000. Much of Sinquefield’s justice reform agenda runs through the Senate Judiciary Committee of which Luetky is chair.
Jones Confront Homeless Crisis
Post-Dispatch’s Austin Huguelet reports on St. Louis City Mayor Tishaura Jones backing off a plan to “sweep” the tent city that’s grown in downtown.
· Aides to Mayor Tishaura O. Jones said the city would move to clear a growing homeless encampment outside City Hall here Monday night, citing rising problems with fighting and drug use among those living there and increasing complaints from city employees being accosted at work.
· But early Tuesday morning, top officials changed their minds. With two aldermen and a crowd of activists for the homeless standing between police officers and the encampment and refusing to leave, the administration agreed to call off the sweep for the night and continue working to find housing for campers in the morning.
· Alderman Rasheen Aldridge, of Old North St. Louis, announced the deal to a victorious audience shortly after 1:30 a.m. "We can all get some sleep tonight," he said.
KSDK’s Mark Maxwell had reported on Twitter last night that “Mayor Jones’ orders to remove the tent encampments come on the same week top Democratic officials and dignitaries will come to St Louis to prepare for the 2024 DNC. It has the appearance she’s sweeping an eyesore from a prominent place to avoid embarrassment… Progressives at City Hall are not thrilled…”
State Revenue Falls in September
It looks like state revenues in September fell by about 4% compared to the same period last year. That was a shortfall of about $50 million which brings the year-to-date total about $90 million behind last year’s numbers.
· The consensus revenue estimate projects revenue to be flat.
Rumorville: Draper to Join Gore?
St. Louis tipster says that St. Louis Circuit Attorney Gabe Gore will announce that “recently retired Supreme Court Justice George Draper III will be joining his senior staff.”
· Gore continues to attract talent and civic support for rehabbing the city’s prosecuting office.

· Ray County is represented by Sen. Denny Hoskins and Rep. Terry Thompson.

Cathy Jo Loy added $10,000 to her campaign committee. She’s running House 163 to replace termed Rep. Cody Smith.
Filing is still months away, but so far, she doesn’t have any competition.
Loy has an impressive resume; she would enter the freshman class with high expectations…
