MOScout Daily Update: Busch Sends $100K to Bailey PAC - No Herren in Senate 17 - WashU Hiring - New Justus PAC and more...

Quick Friday update…

Busch Sends $100K to Bailey PAC

August Busch III, one of the deep-pocketed Republicans who’s consistently willing to open his checkbook, sent $100,000 to the pro-Andrew Bailey political action committee, Liberty and Justice PAC.

$100,000 in this statewide race is like a $10,000 check in a normal state senate race. It’s nice and helpful, but you need a lot of them to get whether you need to go.

·       The consensus opinion is that they’re going to be so much money flowing into this race that we’ll all be sick of Bailey and Will Scharf by next August.

New Justus PAC

Justus for All PAC was formed.  It’s in support of Rep. Doyle Justus.  He’s a freshman from Troy Missouri. (See his bio here).  Formation of these PACs, which can raise money without the normal caps which apply to candidate committees, often indicate that a politician is thinking about running for a leadership position or higher office down the road.

See the paperwork here.

No Herren in Senate 17

Forget that tip that Republicans might have found someone to replace Vic Hurlbert in Senate 17.  No such luck as Darren Hennen, who I wrote earlier in the week GOPers were trying to recruit, is apparently a “hard no on running.”

What It Means

Democratic Rep. Maggie Nurrenbern running hard and there’s no one even stretching and warming up for the Republicans.

If Dems end up without credible Republican challengers in Senate 17 and Senate 19 (Webber locking things down), they’ll be able to focus on hanging on to Senate 11 (Rep. Robert Sauls), and stealing one in St. Louis County, Senate 15 (Joe Pereles).
