MOScout Daily Update: Nolte Works for Clay Stadium - Haahr Hearts Ashcroft and more...

Quick Friday update…

Nolte Works The Building for Clay Stadium

Clay County Commissioner Jerry Nolte was back in the capitol this week.  The former representative was with other Clay County officials meeting with legislative leaders as well as Governor Mike Parson about a new stadium for the Kansas City Royals.

In addition to Clay County’s North Kansas City location, another site in Jackson County’s Downtown Kansas City is also being considered.

The Royals are thought to be on track to make a decision of their intentions by the end of the month.

It’s expected that the new stadium, regardless of location, will seek state funds.  But Clay County’s proposal, supported by a new local sales tax, could be a smaller ask.

And looming in the background are the Kansas City Chiefs.  One observer says where the Royals end up is small potatoes compared to the worst-case scenario of the Chief relocating in the future to Kansas.  Some think the Royal moving to Clay County would help retain the Chiefs as they would become the sole beneficiaries of the current sales tax in Jackson County, instead of splitting it with the Royals as they currently do.

We’ll see….

Casinos Ask Citizens to Report Grays

In their press release supporting St. Louis County Councilman Ernie Trakas’s fight against gray machines (see it here), the casinos’ trade association urges “Missourians who are concerned about the impact and spreading of illegal slot machines in their communities can report suspected machines on the Missouri Gaming Commission website.  We also encourage Missourians to ask their legislators to crack down on illegal slot machines and vote no on legislation to legalize them in the next legislative session.”

Inflation Fight About Over?

This is good news for Democrats who have been getting beat up over rising prices for the past year.  But it also doesn’t mean that prices have returned to former level.  It’s simply that they’re likely to stop rising so quickly.

Haahr Hearts Ashcroft

Former Speaker Elijah Haahr is among the hosts at next week’s Jay Ashcroft fundraiser in Springfield.
