MOScout Daily Update: Ozzie for Sports Betting - Nolte Adds $$$ - Aune Working It and more…
Quick Friday update…
Ozzie for A2
There aren’t a whole lot of endorsements that move folks. This one might not neither. But it might in the St. Louis market. Hall of Fame Cardinal shortstop Ozzie Smith cut a commercial endorsing the sports betting constitutional amendment. See it here.
Back in my day I was The Wizard of the infield. Now I'm a grandfather. That's why I'm voting yes on Amendment 2. It means over $100 million for Missouri schools and teachers and no more broken promises. There’s a constitutional guarantee that the money goes to our schools. And legalizing sports betting is great for us fans too. That’s why the Royals, Chiefs, Blues and Cardinals all join me in saying “Yes” on Amendment 2.
Money Watch
· We’ve entered late-stage campaign season – where candidates toss in their own money in one final effort to get across the finish-line. Today it’s Jerry Nolte adding $25,000 of his own money. I’ll be surprised if we don’t see his happen in other close legislative races as well.
· The House Democratic Campaign Committee got a nice bump of $50,000 from the Democratic Governors Association.
· Sen. Mary Elizabeth Coleman’s PAC sent $10,000 to HRCC. DESE Commissioner (former Sen.) Karla Eslinger’s candidate committee did the same yesterday.
Aune Working It
Rep. Ashley Aune will be in St. Louis next week meeting with Democratic representative and candidates in her role as Minority Whip, but also nailing down support for her Minority Leader race…
Off and Running in St. Charles?
With Steve Ehlmann demurring on another term, it looks like the St. Charles County Executive race is already starting.
· As previously reported, Sen. Bill Eigel has formed a campaign committee and will enter with huge name ID from his gubernatorial bid.
· One MOScouter says that Lake St. Louis Mayor Jason Law “raised $25K [at his recent] golf tournament,” and that Law is the “normal/pro-business anti-Eigel candidate.”
· Plus, there’s St. Charles County Councilman Mike Elam who is expected to jump in and run on the “normal wing” of the Republican Party.
STL Council 6 Race
Protect St. Louis Freedom, a PAC supporting Kevin Schartner, has released a second ad. Schartner is a Democrat running for St. Louis County Council, District 6, against – Republican Michael Archer. See the ad here.
South County can't afford Mike Archer on the County Council. He has an extreme plan to cut critical St Louis County funding. Mike Archer’s plan could reduce funding for law enforcement we can’t risk fewer funds for our police…
But
One Republican says he’s confident the GOP will hold the seat. “Mike Archer is well-known in his community… a former fighter pilot and a former prosecutor. He currently practices law in South County and he recently won a competitive primary election against a two-term incumbent… Schartner has previously served on the school board, but the voter demographics are different in this election. This district leans Republican and Schartner would need to run a perfect campaign, which he is not…”
eMailbag on CATO Grade
The CATO Institute proves their rankings are about as valuable as Mo. Right to Life ratings with CATO's ranking of "D" for a governor that dramatically cut taxes for everyone, including Missouri businesses. Nothing says "ignore me" like crazy ratings like these!
